Has anyone tried Betaserc for hyperacusis? When I got my tinnitus in 2010 I was prescribed it, but it didn't have any effect.

However now I have developed hyperacusis distorting everyday noises in the left ear, probably by a loud event with plastic boxes coming down next to me. It's been a few weeks now.

I guess it would be worth a shot getting it prescribed again?

I took it for several months and it didn't do anything. It didn't hurt anything either, so if you feel like it will help you might as well try it.

How do you know it's hyperacusis, I don't think that condition causes noise distortion, is it abnormal amplification of noise, pain or both?

The word hyperacusis is used to describe three things, ear pain from noise, abnormal amplification of noise, and reactive tinnitus (Michael Leigh's hypothesis)

People are calling separate unrelated conditions hyperacusis, the word hyperacusis has no real meaning the way the community uses it. It's too late , we are in the total dark with the blind leading the blind.

How long have you had ear pain from noise?

It's not ear pain, more of extreme irritation and stress response when even a car passing by or normal conversation situations causes the inner ear muscle to go insane and make everything distorted and crackling.

I guess you could say it amplifies the sound internally to cause it to activate, I cant really tell myself when the crackling and distortion just goes over everything.

And of course reactive tinnitus has been a thing for me since 2010, but this thing will really kill everything in my life if the tolerance goes down to 50db range.

I think I will get myself an appointment and try to get it along with muscle relaxants. If the increased blood flow would give it tools to heal even a bit.

The only way to treat hypercusis is with sound therapy to help desensitize the auditory system so it becomes less sensitive to sound. This can be achieved with sell help or seeking more professional help with a Hearing Therapist or Audiologist trained in the treatment and management of tinnitus and hypeacusis. More information is in post in the link below.
