Can steroids worsen tinnitus or damage the inner ear?

I do not quite understand the mechanism by which they can help with tinnitus and ear damage.

There is an order to take a large daily dose in the morning, from 6 to 8 am. Since at this time there is a natural production of corticoids by the adrenal glands of the body.

I do not always take them exactly at 8:00, and sometimes at 8:30 or, like today, even at 9:00 am.
That isn't dangerous, right? It does not cause atrophy in the adrenal glands or affect the ear?

In addition, I did this - got up, took prednisolone and about an hour later went to bed and fell asleep again. They had enough time to digested by the body and spread in the bloodstream?

I think it's worth it to finish taking prednisolone, why in some sources it is indicated as a drug that can cause tinnitus in itself ?!

I studied the US statistical sites and did not find it confirmed - the frequency of problems with the inner ear against the background of taking prednisolone on official applications was less than 0.1%, which is a statistical error.

But can prednisolone really worsen tinnitus if it's taken after 8 am?

Taking prednisalone early is fine,the later you take it can cause insomnia at nigh .

Steroids aren't going to hurt your ear. It's the side effects that turn people off of them...

Long term abuse has the potential to make tinnitus worse as prednisone is ototoxic. It's unlikely, if taken for the right reasons, though, under medical guidance.

It also depends what steroids you're talking about? I assumed prednisone for obvious reasons.

I'm telling you.

About 3 weeks ago, amid a scandal and a quarrel, I had a spike.

Usually spikes lasted 3-5 days, once it lasted 1.5 weeks.

In such cases, I often took short doses of prednisolone, because I can buy it without a prescription, and as a rule it helped. I do not know, auto-suggestion, a coincidence it was or something else.

This time I waited until the last, did not want to take prednisolone. But on day 6 of the spike all the same started a short course - 4 days of 25 mg. This course had absolutely no effect. At the same time, I took vitamins, magnesium.

Still somewhere in a week, as the spike did not pass, I decided to do another course of prednisolone, perhaps the first time the dose was small.

I took this course - 30mg, 30,30,20,10,5. Today I finished it. In the middle of the course there were some improvements. However, as a result, today I can not note the changes for the better.

What should I do? 30 mg a sufficient dose, or did you need to take 60 mg?

I'm thinking about another 50-60 mg premme. Do you think it's worth it?

What should I do?

@IvanRus,
Steroids in the Uk are only given by a doctor on perscription.
As tinnitus talk is world wide I know this might not be the case for everyone .

This is why it's important that prednisone is taken under the guidance of a dr. Do not take anymore prednisone! However, you may be stressing and overthinking your symptoms. The way the brain works with T is really complicated, and anything can set us off into a spiral of anxiety that can make everything feel worse.

My advice is to stop taking steroids every time a loud noise concerns you. Steroids are usually given, intratympanically, when someone has been exposed to an extremely loud sound and has muffled hearing. We're talking things like the blast wave of an explosive, gunfire close to the ear, etc.

I think it's best you talk to a medical professional. If you feel you have become dependent on using prednisone as a safety net then you may need further help to help you change your behaviour. Not all sounds are going to cause immediate damage to your inner ear. In fact, it's incredibly rare during everyday life.

Try not to worry as your stress may be exacerbating your symptoms.

I suspect you're on the right track yourself.;)
I believe that this low-dose short-term dose of corticoids has no effect at all on tinnitus.

In the sense of the side effect of tinnitus, or the therapeutic effect for tinnitus.

I check the hearing in a special application on a smartphone with the same headphones. Tell this + - authentically?

I do not want to go to the audiologist.

@1MW
Explain to me please!

We here often talk about the dosage of prednisolone starting at 60 mg with a further reduction in oral form.

Is this the American standard for the treatment of hearing loss? Or is it a treatment option for tinnitus?

I just often read that, for example, in Germany, real acute hearing loss is treated with much larger doses of hormones and inject them, usually intravenously.

What do you say ?! In the US, they are treated with pills ?!

@IvanRus ,
I have had to take prednisalone for many years for days,weeks and also months and low Matinance dose...
It is not a nice medication and I have never taken above 40mg unless in hospital due to sever asthma.
As for tinnitus I really would check with your doctor if taking a really high dose just to make sure your ok incase you do get any problems.
Even though I am a staff member I am here to help.
Good luck in what you decide to do and hope your ears settle.

Many incomprehensible things with prednisolone.

Tell me, you also have this - when you take prednisolone (just at the time of admission), tinnitus becomes quieter, then when you stop taking prednisolone everything returns.

What would that mean?

And the second question - 30mg a day, a sufficient dose for admission with a spike?

They use Prednisone in North America. It is hard to tell what relationship it has to prednisolone...
I think that these are equivalent drugs. Prednisone is simply a commercial name for prednisolone.

We in Russia have both prednisolone and prednisone. And this is one and the same in essence.

30 mg dose. Different sources of different dosages. Should I take another course, but with large doses. After almost a month?
