Tinnitus sufferers Chris Martin and will.i.am are among the stars who have contributed songs to a new charity album to help raise awareness of the hearing condition.
The singer and the rapper have both talked openly about their struggles with tinnitus in the past, and now they are both backing a new project to help other sufferers.
The two stars' bands, Coldplay and the Black Eyed Peas, have both contributed songs to the IAm The One In Ten album in aid of the British Tinnitus Association.
The record features songs from bands and artists who have all been affected by tinnitus in some way, and British radio host Eddy Temple-Morris, who has been among those driving the project, insists Martin's involvement has really given the campaign a boost.
He says, "I'm so happy that Chris Martin has given this his blessing. With Coldplay on board, at last we have a real chance to get through to (the) government now... this record could be a game changer... One in 10 people has tinnitus, and the (U.K.) government have never spent a single penny on awareness... It's not just musicians and soldiers that get tinnitus, its every layer of society, and I want to reflect this by putting together a compilation album where every single person involved has tinnitus."
Martin previously said of his condition, "I've had tinnitus for about 10 years, but since I started protecting my ears it hasn't got any worse... Looking after your ears is unfortunately something you don't think about until there's a problem. I wish I'd thought about it earlier."
Another tinnitus sufferer, Embrace frontman Danny MCNamara, has also allowed one of the band's songs to be used on the album, while other contributors include Enter Shikari, Chicane and Adam F.

First announced in his CMU column last year, details of Eddy Temple-Morris and the British Tinnitus Association’s new compilation, ‘I Am The One In Ten’, have been announced. Put together to raise awareness of tinnitus, which affects one in ten people in the UK, all the artists (or at least one member of each band) who have contributed tracks to the album suffer from the condition. Amongst those who have contributed are Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, DJ Fresh, Adam F and Embrace.
Says Temple-Morris: “I’m so happy that Chris Martin has given this his blessing, with Coldplay on board, at last we have a real chance to get through to government now… this record could be a game changer”
As well as the musicians involved having tinnitus, Temple-Morris and the BTA have attempted to ensure that everyone at each stage of the process also has personal experience of the condition, from mastering engineers to PR people, and a key member of the label team who put the record out (talks with possible label partners are ongoing, if any label out there is interested). I’m pitching in by writing this while trying to ignore the constant ringing in my ears. It’s hoped that this will help to highlight just how widespread this problem really is, and to encourage investment into research and awareness campaigns for it.
Speaking of which, Tinnitus Awareness Week this year will take place from 4-10 Feb, more information about which can be found here.
The full list of artists involved in the compilation, all of whole have contributed rare or exclusive tracks and remixes (remixers, of course, have tinnitus too), are as follows:
      Coldplay
      Black Eyed Peas
      DJ Fresh
      Embrace

This is excellent! With such international stars as Coldplay and Black Eyed Peas joining this project, we can be sure this is going to be big. Tinnitus probably never got that much media attention before as it will now...

      Sounds good.

The government in the UK hardly 'spend a single penny' on any treatment for T either. No proper counselling service or TRT. Not in my area anyway.

British chart-toppers Coldplay have agreed to contribute a remix of one of their tracks to a charity album aimed at raising awareness of tinnitus.

DJ Eddy Temple-Morris, who dreamt up the project, said he planned to put together an album "where every single person involved has tinnitus".

Coldplay singer Chris Martin suffers from the condition - a constant buzzing in the ear, often caused by loud music.

Other bands involved in the project include Black Eyed Peas and Embrace.

The common condition, where sounds are heard in one or both ears when there is no external source, is caused by a misinterpretation by the brain of signals from the nerves in the ear.

The project, entitled I Am The One in Ten, is the brainchild of Temple-Morris, producer and ambassador of the British Tinnitus Association (BTA).

      Game-changer
"We need to get through to the government that it's not just musicians and soldiers that get tinnitus, it's every layer of society," he said.

"We want to reflect this by putting together a compilation album where every single person involved has tinnitus."

Temple-Morris said he was "so happy that Chris Martin has given this his blessing" and that the album, if produced, "could be a game-changer".

The record, he continued, would include an exclusive remix of Coldplay's Charlie Brown, the third single from the band's 2011 release Mylo Xyloto.

"It's never been out and this will be the only place you can get it," Temple-Morris told the BBC.
"It's an amazing mix that I was hammering all over Europe last summer."
