Discreet Ear Protecting Headphones

Dear community,

I am looking for a pair of discreet ear protecting headphones. I can not use ear-plugs at the time being due to external otitis/swimmer's ear. I want to use them when I go to the gym (as an example). I have been thinking about maybe getting noise cancelling/isolation headphones created for music (but with no music on) and use them instead of "original ear protecting headphones" (original ear protecting headphones that I have are too clumsy). However I have no idea which one might be suitable in a gym environment.

Any suggestions/ideas are welcome.

Thanks for your reply, I will keep this in mind when I am able to use in-ear earphones. However I am looking for headphones due to the external otitis/swimmer's ear.
