Hi guys,

I'll be flying for a week-long trip from London to Tokyo next month and it's my first post-tinnitus long haul flight.

Of course 12 hours is a lot of travel time to kill and I've ditched using headphones ever since I had tinnitus. Anybody that's been in a similar situation before? I've thought about buying Sennheiser HD 380 that attenuates up to 32 dB for movies and podcasts at low volumes. I've heard mixed things about people that have used noise-cancelling headphones so that's why I'm thinking about these headphones.

I was also planning to use EarPlanes ear plugs for take-off and landing.

Any help is much appreciated!

I did the same thing when flying to Hawaii from the U.K. I bought a pair a passive Sennheiser headphones and used them on the lowest volume. Quite literally one bar of volume on a BA flight and I could hear it fine.

I took many breaks and didn't fall asleep with them on and it had no affect at all on my tinnitus. My only word of warning, is don't plug them in and wear them near takeoff and/or immediately after as there are many intercom announcements that come through your headphones and these are not normalised on some flights. They will quite literally blast you - with a much louder volume - whilst they make their announcements. I got caught out once on a flight to LA and it nearly gave me a heart attack because I wasn't expecting it.
