I feel for you, @glynis. The first year is the hardest, I found. My first year without dad at Christmas, his first birthday, etc. Father's Day still is hard for me every year. I just try to ignore it until its gone.

Still, we both are lucky to have had wonderful fathers whom we loved, and who loved us, for many many years. I will be thinking of you on Sunday. Hold your memories of your dad close. He looked like a sweet man who was blessed with a caring, thoughtful daughter.

Maybe to help cope with Father's Day, you could come up with a new "living tradition" for him - do something special for someone in honor of your dad - like maybe if you seen an elderly gentleman dining in a fast food restaurant some time this week, you could pay his bill anonymously or even right in the open (depending on how you feel about it) and let him know why, or help someone you think your dad would like you to help, or something like that. That way, you would be actively honoring his spirit and putting a positive living focus on the day in his honor ...
