I have a Fitbit but I’ve never used it to monitor my sleep sorry. it’s good for keeping track of your daily exercise/steps and calories intake with the Fitbit app, I’m guessing it would be good for monitoring you sleep as well?
I try in tonight and let you know tomorrow if you like.

I have one and just wondering if the sleep pattern really gives an accurate reading.
Mine shows light and deep sleep patterns but I never get a good block of deep sleep, it sort of goes from light sleep to deep sleep to light sleep to deep sleep, etc.

      Wondering if that's normal?

      Love,

I prefer Garmin. The pattern of lighter and deeper sleep phases is determined solely by the movement of the watch and, of course, cannot be compared with a sleep laboratory...

What kind of device do you use @glynis?

Yes, that's my understanding as well. Even before my tinnitus, I used one of those sleep tracking apps on my Samsung Galaxy phone and it was one of the best apps in this category, but it produced what to me looked like a very unstable and unreliable graph. Or I didn't know how to read it!

If I didn't know myself better I would have thought I am a crazy person during sleep, moving around all the time, maybe even a sleep walker. But who is to say I am not that crazy person? I can't really verify myself what I am doing during sleep, unless of course I record a video of myself during sleep. While at it, why not just start my own sleep lab?

How do we even measure performance and accuracy of such devices? Compare the sleep recording of one of them to another? How do we know if we are interpreting the results right?

Many valid questions... The best way to measure performance of such devices would be to have a group of sleep researchers test them in a sleep lab environment and put them up against their professional equipment.

Mine more or less said the same as yours Glynis, expect mine was more on the light side. I don’t think it gives you an exact picture of your sleep pattern. Not really impressed with it as a sleep monitor, but everything else I think is good with the Fitbit.

Fitbits now give a sleep score out of 100. Just wondering if anyone with a Fitbit has recently acquired sudden tinnitus, and if so, how did your sleep scores change? What was the before and after? I am wondering if Fitbit sleep scores could be used as a means of determining the efficacy of a treatment. I reckon there is a good chance sleep scores would be better than THI/TFI.

I’m presently trying an antioxidant/multivitamin regimen and thinking of using my sleep scores as a means of determining if it is working (so far after 5 days there has been quite an improvement in sleep scores but not an obvious improvement in the tinnitus impact itself; I’ll keep on monitoring to see if it is maintained).

Have you tried an in-home sleep test to get a more accurate reading? I had one and it was surprisingly good. I think it was probably pretty reliable. I had to pay for it privately but it was worth it as I needed to know whether I have sleep apnea. Turns out I snore so it’s a good reason for keeping the earplugs in at night. Means I may not have to do an in-hospital sleep test. I heard from a sleep specialist that Fitbit seems to be somewhat ok but I’m sure it’s not fully reliable.

My average Fitbit weekly sleep scores for the last 4 weeks were 79, 80, 79, 77 (although last night was 50!). I tend to have reasonable scores, with a few bad scores in the week.

I worry a bit that tinnitus is causing bad sleep which might be causing other health issues.

Can anyone else share their scores/experience?
