      A quick success story:

This week my wife got talking to a co-worker and the subject of earplugs came up.

My wife confided in him about my acoustic trauma tinnitus (concert) and he told her that he had bad Tinnitus back in the 1980's from gunshots, and it completely faded away. He is around 60 now, and said it was quite bad, with loud ringing, pain and fullness. He didn't say how long it took to fade away, but he said he is fine now and always protects his ears from loud noise with earplugs now.

I have seen a lot of these stories online in other forums other than T forums. I've read quite a few on firearm and motorcycle forums. I know the experts say it won't go away after hearing loss but I think they are just scientific minded and can't explain spontaneous remission.

I hope my tinnitus goes away, it is very low hiss in the morning, but in night it becomes loud, it follows the same trend everyday. It's been 4 months since I got this, it's like 30 to 20 percent remaining but still annoying at night.

Hi jiflyman, do you wear earplugs or earmuffs all time (cars, street, restaurant, friend's house, when there is a loud noise...)? My hearing is better and normal and i had a new surgery for my eardrum. I see a dentist tommorow.

I don't wear them all the time when going out anymore (I did at first), but I have foams handy and will put them in when/if a place gets too loud

Thats the same pattern my did as it continues to fade. In the mornings it is pretty quiet, but in the evenings it gets a little louder. It continues to get more and more quiet in the morning, and less loud at night, so it is still fading.

When I was young - 18 year old - I was playing with fireworks - I live in a third world country - I had tinnitus for four weeks, serious ear fullness and very loud ringing. I noticed each day was improving. By the time I got an appointment with and ENT the tinnitus was resolved by itself.

@Core2Duo How long would you say it took before you started to notice improvement when you first got your T, at the age of 18 from fireworks. I have did the same thing about 3 weeks ago one very loud bang aproxmally one meter away. And havent seen that much improvement to be honest, I know it takes time dont get me wrong.

That is hopeful news. -- Thanks for sharing.

After 3 years with T from one loud concert, I pray for a cure or at least a downtick in the noise level..

Hemp oil spray does seem to help temporarily, however, it may just be a placebo effect.. :)

      @John Meyers
One concert did this to you. that's scary. How long/loud was the concert? Have you had any fading since the concert?
      I'm sorry.

Thanks. It was just one concert that I did something very stupid at. -- I cupped my ears for the guitar solos until my ears burned. -- I wouldn't have gotten T if I didn't do that.

Yes, it was complete drunk'n stupidity and nothing more..

Before that, I was always very careful with my ears and even left this same band years earlier when we had a sky box right in front of the speakers.

I've spent the last 3 years kicking myself but there really is nothing I can do about it unless Elon Musk invents a time machine...

Do you have hearing loss? Have you done an Audiogram? DPOAE?

      Hi jjflyman

I just bought some ear plugs from the BTA but they are huge and hang out of my ears. I do actually have very small ears though. Can you recommend any ear plugs?

      No hearing loss at all.

Within the first month, I went to two different ENTs and had an audiogram.

The ENTs didn't really know what to say but a regular doctor explained that the ear follicles are like hay being knocked down in a field with no hope of rising again. -- The brain doesn't know what to make of all the regular noise so it substitutes with the ringing. In addition, nerve endings are damaged and contribute to the ringing as well.

Layman's terms I know but that explanation helped me to at least understand what was going on since I was really freaking out in that first month..

      Did you have Hyperacusis?

No hyperacusis for me. -- Just a constant ringing that never subsides unless I eat very healthy and exercise regularly which is hard to do when I'm busy working every day..

      What is OHC?

Outer Cochlea Hair Cells. DPOAE revealed that I damaged some. Now I am trying to figure out if I can damage Inner Hair cells without damaging Outer.

I don't know how they are for small ears, all I can do is share what I use.
I use Mack's ultra soft foam earplugs. They are cheap and work well for me.

Hang in there and remember that there are worse ailments and situations that people are in.

I know it's hard to do but true and the biggest challenge is just accepting T and moving on with life. -- I accepted it 2 years ago when I thought it was temporary and hope to do it again very soon.

      Take Care,
      John
