I have had tinnitus and hearing loss (right ear only) for three years. I was stubborn and would not go get a hearing aid because I was convinced that my hearing would eventually come back.

Two months ago I decided to try two supplements that I read about on Tinnitus Talk. These supplements are N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine (Vitamin Shoppe brand). I have been taking one each daily.

My tinnitus has not gotten better but my hearing has greatly improved, WOW!

I am thrilled to be able to hear again. It was so embarrassing to have to ask people to repeat themselves.

I will post again if my tinnitus improves.

What? 3 years and your hearing returned. How did you lose your hearing? Did you have a circulation issue?

About 3 ½ years ago I had a bad cold and noticed the tinnitus for the first time. In conjunction, also could not hear very well. I felt like I was underwater and everything sounded gargled from right ear. I could not use ear buds, headphones, or phone on the bad ear. I always wondered if it was the hearing loss that was causing the tinnitus, and now I know it wasn’t the case.

Hearing doesn't improve, once it is lost it is gone permanently. That's why your tinnitus didn't improve, because you still have the same hearing loss as before.

This is actually confusing knowing peripheral hearing returned and you still have tinnitus, and competes with statistics on hearing aids, cochlear implants and middle ear malfunctions being corrected and tinnitus going away.

How long has your hearing been back? Maybe eventually your tinnitus will go away, please keep us updated.

Sounds like TMJ as that would cause muffled hearing and it also can take a few years for the muscles to relax and quit putting pressure on your inner ear.

Maybe it wasn't a full return and they went from hearing loss to like hidden hearing loss?

Others have reported hearing that has improved - hearing tests that have been markedly better than prior hearing tests. Do you think then that such people had conductive hearing loss?

This person's tinnitus would have to have had improved?

I can't figure this out either, I guess it isn't 100% consistent if tinnitus becomes deeply rooted in regions of the brain that have nothing to do with hearing.

My own hearing improved the first 6 months or so after acoustic injury but yeah I agree 3 years is extremely unlikely.

Deficiency issues or a placebo are two possibilities

Shit I didn't know it could take that long for the muscles to relax. Anyway to speed this process up?? Also my ears haven't been as full as usual, is this a good sign? Explain.
