      Tinnitus Since:
      10/17
      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Big speaker at club
Hello everyone... My name is Tony. I joined this forum because I acquired my tinnitus after a night of going out, 2 weeks ago.

The way I got my tinnitus was being underneath a big speaker at a club for about 2 hours.

Probably the worst thing I've ever done in my life. I noticed my tinnitus when I got home and thought this will go away by the morning.

Sadly it didn't. I was panicking and just hoped it was gonna go away in a couple days.

It only bothers me when I'm really quiet places or when I'm go to bed. I can't lay my head on a pillow without hearing the tinnitus.

My sleep schedule has been damaged and I fear I won't get a good night rest anymore. I don't want to go to doctor because I know there's no cure after digging through the internet. I don't know what else to do.

Please if anyone can help with any advice, send it my way. Everyone have a good day and good nights rest. God speed everyone

      Hello Tony,

Welcome to the forum. I got T from listening to music on my ipod (loud) and sitting next to a loud speaker at a festival. I had it for about three-four weeks now..i stopped counting honestly. The first few days of the first week were intense as I couldn't sleep because it was so intrusive. I had to sleep next to a clock that ticks so it would mask the horrible noise. I cried a lot that night and thought I am only 27 and have a whole life ahead of me, why me? and why now? I was a very very happy individual before this.. Some days are good and some days are bad, it fluctuates a lot and it mostly happens during certain times of the day. MAKE SURE TO PROTECT YOUR EARS NOW! Your ears have been compromised and now you have to take good care of them. I wear earplugs when I am outside in the public as there are too many sudden sounds. You don't want to expose yourself to loud sounds again as that can make T worse.
      Keep us updated please..

also keep in mind that there is a chance that it can go away or at least fade to a level where it will be tolerable.

I have not gone to ENT or audiologist yet. I'm scared to because I have a feeling they will tell me the same thing, that's incurable and will have to adjust to buzzing sound in head. I guess I don't pay a lot of cash since I don't have Insurance either. I'm recent bought a noise maker, hopefully this help me cope with T.

I have been also told to live with it. I miss my old life so so much...I was a very happy person before this. Some hope still lingers that it will fade to a level where it will be barely noticeable.

Tony, I think we will see more and more cases of T in the upcoming years. I hope that the medical community finds a cure soon.

I'm sorry that you're here, but I'm glad you found the forum. I too struggled with sleep in the beginning stages, but after few months I can actually sleep through the night with this loud ringing in my head (without any meds). I honestly didn't think I would ever sleep again. But here I am, sleeping like a baby every night.

All I'm saying is that you can get used to it and you'll get your life back. Sure, it won't be the exact same as before, but you can't dwell on the past. Try to focus on the good things in your life and you'll start to see that Tinnitus isn't that bad.

Will do and thanks Ben! By any chance, you have suggestions that can possibly help me improve my sleeping with tinnitus? I Been using a fan but I'm not sure if should use meds to help me sleep.

I use this sound machine. It's pretty cool because you can choose between 20 different fan and white noises. http://lectrofan.com/

I also use the SoundPillow from time to time. But in the beginning, this was the single thing that helped me sleep at night. http://www.soundpillow.com/

I just got Tinnitus randomly last week. The first week is without a doubt the worst as it's such a shift from what you're used to, this second week has been slightly better but I'm sure it will take me a long time to habituate.

Even if they tell you it's tinnitus go see an ENT to rule out anything bad. Once you know it's not something that's actually critical you can start working toward habituation.

I just went ahead and ordered magnesium and ginko as it seems to be something that pops up in tinnitus studies. It might not work but eh, might as well try.

White noise helps (sound machine), you can purchase melatonin as well.

      Noise induced, loud rock concert
I got mine 2.5years ago at metal concert. I had sleeping problems for about 6 months, now what helps me sleep is a relax melodies app on my iPhone, it has dosens of sounds to choose from, my favourite is rain sounds. I sleep like a baby. The biggest struggle is concentration at work, but I fight everyday. I also use in-ear maskers producing soft white noise whenever I cannot use stationary device to mask. White noise maskers help a lot, they calm me down. If it does not go away for you you'll have to adapt. I would suggest no more live music and no earbuds. It's annoying but livable. You just take one day at a time and try your best to do something productive with given day. Don't think too much about the future cause it can make you even more anxious, the cure may or may not come. Stay busy, don't stay at home and dwell on T cause it will make you more miserable. There are milinos of us in it, we need to keep going.
