Hello all,

At present, it appears I can only sleep with hardcore sleeping pills. This is not a long term solution, I know. Last night, I tried to replace them with a herbal supplement called 5-HTP. Everyone is raving about it on the net, so I thought I'd try it. What I got was absolutely zero sleep, and a whole night of jittery anxiety. Has anyone else had this reaction? It seemed like the opposite of a sleep aid to me.

So I'm now in a bind. I want to try more of this stuff but wary of another reaction like that. Couldn't go to work the next day. Awful. Can anyone suggest other stuff? Has anyone tried Valerian? I want to try this stuff now because I'm worried about what will happen when my doctor cuts me off the sleeping pills (6 days in now).

I found all these helped kick the insomnia cycle at various times in my life :-

1. L-Tryptophan - a food- no side effects for me
2 Diphenhydramine - an antihistamine - no side effects part from slight hungover feeling in the morning.
3 Melatonin - no side effects for me - worth a go.

Always check with your medical advisor :)

I take 10mg Melatonin, and normal does of ZQuill nightly. I do wake up in the middle of the night sometimes "Still with Tinnitus" and now have occasional sleep paralysis with crazy dreams an hour or so prior to waking. I also take Clonidine before bedtime as well. For some reason I do have a couple of days Tinnitus free and wish I knew what I did differently to have them.
Using a Netti Pot nightly lately seems to help relieve Tinnitus symptoms.

I also tried 5HTP...doesn't seem to be doing much of anything.
I use Dr Vogel's Valerian tincture with hops and it works great.
Also use homeopatic product called R14...again, it works pretty good alone or in conjunction with the Valerian.
Had bad experience with Melatonin...turns out that if your body is able to produce enough Melatonin on it's own, taking more than that actually hurts your sleep..took me a while to figure that one out..
That one you have to try and see for yourself.
CBD oil is also very good at cutting anxiety and can be used as a sleep aid.

Ive had sleep issues for 20 years an year ago I tried Passion Flower liquid drops and its was like a miracle. I highly recommend you try it. The bottle says you can take like 30 drops, I was out the first night with 5. I have built up a small resistance to it but still only need 10-15 drops. Its not a straight up sedative live Valerian. It helps produce GABA and it works in 5-10 minutes. so take it in bed. It says you can add it to water, but I just use the droplet and drop right into my mouth. Valerian drops work also but not as well. Also make sure you get the one without alcohol. Get the Alcohol Free version.

Is there a particular brand of passion flower you like? There are so many on Amazon that I don't know which one to get.
