ive had tinnnitus for 2 years from shooting so i think because it didnt come to light till 5 months after shooting so idk. and it has gotten really bad the past 6 months. it has gotten so bad that i am on leave from my job since i work outside. but really bad the past 2 months with hyperacusis which has made me super sensitive to everything and i mean everything as in someone talking to me with a high tone setting a dish on a table, every little ding. i have always been in shape and been very muscular from working out and exercising but lately its been hard since my H has been so sensitive and my T spiking for everything. i am getting very depressed since exercising has been my stress reliever. ive never experienced anxiety till about a month ago and been stressing alot. i have always been an out going person, would always like hang out with friends, liked trying new things and going places but since i got tinnitus i have done almost none of that but exercise. its been very hard on me. i hope talking to you guys and ho you deal with it might help me out.

Hey bro, welcome to the forum, good to see that you carried on training even though you have t,I think the gym helps so much in dealing with stress and anxiety gets the natural feel good chemicals going and its free..
shouldn't give up that up if you can help it Just remember to breath Whilst lifting.
t tends to fluctuate anyway from day to day I'm sure given time it will level out, maybe you should check the trobalt thread people had success with there t and h,but meds should be a last option.
but I'm positive given time your t and h will subside naturally.
keep us posted of your progress.

i had H in july really bad and my tinnitus spiked.. and after like 6 weeks the H faded away. but this time around its been like 5 weeks and its just bad and as it was going away i had a bad experience like 3 weeks ago when i went hiking and was on top of the trails and being when we got to the top, we found out someone broke their ankle and not even 1 minute later the rescue helicopter came and was floating over us and i almost got a panic attack from the fear of messing up my t more becasue helicopters are loud, i was with a cousin and he kept telling me it wasnt loud but since i had really bad H i hear it louder i had my hands on my ears trying to cover them and couldnt go anywhere because i was stuck on top. as i finished and got down my T spiked bad with my H acting up. that situation ha given me some anxiety latl and how is it that certain people with t can go to the movies or partys and it doesnt spike.

      @Geo ,
Unfortunately I think H get's worse with bad anxiety, I know after I had suction done for ear wax, I got acoustic shock and with it bad anxiety which has made my T and H bad, If H doesn't calm down on it's own then you might have to seek help with it.
But I would say that if you blocked your ears with the helicopter the noise wouldn't have done any damage and it could be that your anxiety is making your T and H worse.

@RichL..yeah man when i saw the helicopter i thought i was gona faint man. a bad nightmare. i took a earplu out quick stuffed it inside and used my hands even though after that i couldnt hear the helicopter i knew it was going to affect me because i have been wearing a earplug on my bad ear and somehow it spikes and i dont even go to loud places pretty sure its the H. ive even been scared of getting a haircut from the clippers my hair is pretty big lol. ive always got a haircut once a week and im scared most people would tell me wear earplugs but somehow its still goes through. and i also have another question do custom earplugs protect better than foam, cause ive been thinking in investing in custom if it protects better

I'm pretty sure that it's anxiety bro, I was like you are now 25 years ago when I first got T, but one thing I have learned is that normal everyday noise as long as it's not excessively loud, will not damage or cause T to get worse.

Your main enemy now is the psychological effect that some T sufferers get about noise, myself included and I know that @Rhea suffers this as well. Because of H we perceive noise as being louder and more damaging than it actually is and if you don't control it now and get help for the H, it will start to be a real burden the longer it goes!

Foam ear plugs are better at blocking out more sound so in situations where you need to be around loud noise for long periods, foam ear plugs are best.
Because of your H and anxiety, I would get custom ones made as well so as not to block out too much everyday noise.

Yep, I remember when I was too scared to even get a haircut because of this reason, wear earplugs and I know that some hairdressers have little battery operated clippers that are extremely quiet so perhaps discuss it with them so they will be extra careful close to your ears.

i forgot to mention that i squeezed my hands so hard that i got the earplug stuck and couldnt get it out till i got home and that hurt to get out. when wearing earplugs do you wear both to fully protect even tho its just in my left ear or is one just fine. and yeah man last time i got a haircut it spiked man..but yeah like you said its psychological but when i do get exposed i get really bad head aches and ear pain and nausea. its been hard to also go to the gym since i get scared but my gym is somewhat quieter than others. is overprotect a thing like wearing muffs over plugs when going to the gym. i appreciate your responses man.

@Geo , yea it sounds like you got H pretty bad and I would suggest going to a Tinnitus and Hyperacusis specialist to get that sorted first bro.

In a noisy situation you can wear muffs over plugs, I do that in some situations at my work,(Truck Driver).

If you have only got it in one ear, unfortunately I'm not an expert with one ear T as I have it in both, but I assume the principle is the same, protect in noisy situations and that's both ears not just one!

Iv'e got my plugs stuck a couple of times and had to use tweezers to get them out, it shouldn't have done any damage.

I would protect both ears just to be on the safe side. I'm anxious about loud noises too I even hate when someone sneezes next to me I'm always scared that it's going to set off my ear. Have you gone to an ENT? Maybe you can find one that can help you in the meantime try to relax which I know it's not easy but I'm taking it one day at a time and it has helped me not to lose my mind.....yet

@RichL yeah man i asked a long time ago to a ent abot the plugs he said one should be fine since i only have it in one just shows how much they actually know. how bad is your T do you hear it over a tv like i do. i told my current ent about my H how is so active and he gave me these pills that treat damaged nerves for shingles and said it should help but i took it twice and got a bad headache and a lilttle spike got scared havent taken them anymore. i find it crazy that your a truck driver since riggs are pretty loud. ive been on leave since i work outside as a meter reader(gas) and been on leave ever since my H and T got bad in july. and idk if i can go back since it would be loud since dogs always barking and cars with mufflers and gardners with heavy equipment are always outside.

@Chelles yeah ive actually seen 3 ent's and none were that helpful. ive had it for 26 months at first was mild as in tv, outside noises would mask it now nothing really masks it so its tough. i just miss doing things normal things i did when my T wasnt as bad. like gym, friends, eating out etc. havent done that really in a while without not my ear flaring up lately.

@Geo , I would suggest quite strongly that you go to a T and H specialist bro and get a full consultation, they will offer you the proper help that you need with chronic H like you have.

My T used to be mild to moderate until my flare up last April I can just hear it as background noise over the TV, but I have the TV volume on very low as I am very noise sensitive through over use of earplugs, you can read my story here bro....https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/long-time-sufferer.4496/

I wear good foam ear plugs at work and yea it does get noisy, that is why I have earmuffs as well just in case I go somewhere where noise is inescapably loud, but like I said, no noise can damage you if you have protection.

@Geo have you tried magnesium or vitamin b12? I started taking it and it has helped somewhat. I'm sorry you are going through a rough time I think once we get our anxiety under control things will get better (at least that's what I'm hoping) It can get pretty lonely I haven't gone out in a while and I think it's making my anxiety worse so my advise for you is to get a good set of ear plugs and do the things you used to do and love. The one thing I gave up for good is going to the movies, but no big deal I just rent them on redbox :)

@RichL that way u describe your tinnitus seems like it never flares up. because since i got it. its been getting worse pretty fas,t well it could be cause how i got it through noise exposure. and i hear frequency sounds everytime i pass tv and like electric things.. but yeah man ima start wearing two and carry muffs also just in case.. do you use any specific brand. i forgot to mention that i also got sinusitis same time i got my T its probably connected somehow.

@Geo , yea mine is up and down now like a yo yo, before I had my flare up it was pretty settled but not now, it's also changed pitch and is more high now!

I use classic foam ear plugs, they seem to block out the most noise.

It also sounds as if you have very reactive T, there is a few on this board with the same, here is some links to threads about them....https://www.tinnitustalk.com/search/931813/?q=reactive+T&o=relevance

I would say so, there are a few threads on here about that, just use the search function.

Yea bro, I think when mine spiked, I was suffering from stress that turned into a bit of depression as well which didn't help me none!
Your ears are more susceptible to damage when you are stressed!(more than likely your whole body more susceptible to damage when your stressed).

@RichL i actually saw the ent 3 weeks ago and thats what he said. but since theres really nothing to do left he wanted to do a mri to check if i maybe had a little tumor in the ear but even i knew i didnt and so did he but he insisted cause its protocol and that was the last thing to do. but i told him how i am suffering from sensitive noises and my H is bad. ive been in a mri twice and that machine is really noisy and ur in there for 45 minutes .i told him i was to scared to go in, and damage my ear he said to wear plugs but i told him i didnt want to risk it since he doesnt know how it is to suffer from T and H. but he was just like think about it i was like ok even though he even said the chances of the mri finding something are slim to none. he told my actual doctor that i didnt listen and now my doctor told me i have to find another doc since he dont want to work with me. its probably he doesnt want to deal with my T issues which sucks.

@Geo , Right, you have to make an appointment with a Tinnitus and Hyperacusis specialist as soon as possible, they will get steps underway to help you cope bro.
Your in California so I take it in Los Angeles or somewhere else?

I will include all links for you.

      http://www.latinnitus.com/

      http://www.hearwell.net/hyperacusis-tinnitus-hearing-aids-california

      http://www.eardoctor.org/conditions/hyperacusis.cfm

Don't know anything about these centers but that should give you a starting point. Call them and discuss your predicament and take it from there, it may cost a little but at least you will know what help is available and can choose the best for you, and the cheapest.

      Most ENT's are useless!

@Geo I bet your spikes is due to your sinuses when I had a cold my t spiked up and stayed like that for a couple of weeks. Have you tried nasal sprays? (Sorry if it was mentioned above I haven't read all the replies).
