Hey guys. I’ve had a beep in my ears for like 4 months now. I think I got it because someone shouted in my ear. Can this be true?

This tinnitus is very annoying and I’m always stressing about it. I have it only in my right ear. How do I know if this is permanent or not?

I’m scared. I haven't been to a doctor yet, I thought it would go away.

Yes. Tinnitus is common after an acoustic trauma.

You don't. Nobody can predict whether it's permanent or not. In many cases, the noise disappears with time.

An ENT examination and hearing test may be a reasonable thing to do next. It may not reveal anything (that doesn't mean your hearing is perfect), but it could reveal something actionable.

      Good luck!

We don't have these answers. No one knows what determines if tinnitus is chronic or not if there is no treatment.

The only thing we can tell is tinnitus is usually linked to a hearing deficit even if very mild. Some tinnitus fades, others don't. We don't know what neurological mechanisms are at play. The communities reassurance means nothing to do with a medical problem, no one can promise it will go away unless they have a medical treatment (which no one has yet).

      Yes.
Has it faded compared to how it was two months ago?

You might try to avoid moderate noises like that of a vacuum, car door slamming, hair dryer, and see whether that eventually results in your tinnitus fading.
