Okay, actually I went to a nurse practitioner who prescribes psychiatric drugs and she is very nice. Anyways, due to my depression and tinnitus issues, I asked about Riluzole for off label depression and she said she had never heard of it. I figured that would be the case since this is a drug for ALS. That's why I brought in some case studies and papers about it and she said she would have a doctor look at it as well as her son-in-law who is working on some kind of treatment for depression which they give you a shot for. Sounded very interesting and it is in clinical studies but it is supposed to help people rapidly recover from depression. Anyways, I didn't really ask much about that, but she was really cool to bring that up and look into this medicine. I have no idea if it will help with tinnitus or not. She did however, prescribe me a drug called Gabitril which actually may help and was really a good idea. I thought about it earlier the past couple of weeks, posted about it, and then forgot about it! It is a GABA reuptake inhibitor and can be used as an off label add on for anxiety. She said it would with GABA receptors and help calm the neurons down and hopefully lower tinnitus for me. Also, I think it helps work on anxiety too. Sounds like a good idea to me. Hopefully, I can let you all know what happens, I am not sure how long it will take to work. Unfortunately, I haven't tried it out yet because I was prescribed 60 2mg pills instead of 30 4mg pills that I could break in half. The price difference is unreal! If the pharmacy coordinators would answer their phone I could get this changed fast. I may get a partial refill but with a discount on the 2mg it comes out to be around $2.63 for each 2mg pill $1.57 for each 4mg pill!! And now I find out a quite of few places don't have this readily in stock. Maybe this is worth a shot though. Don't seem to know much about this drug with tinnitus. Hope things go well but wanted to give you all an update.
