Hi All,
A common story, I am sure...

My name is Loz, I am 28 years old. I suddenly developed tinnitus a bit over 3 weeks ago. A high pitched ringing. It came with no 'reason' (I woke up with it, left ear). It has been constant 24/7, hard to sleep... I wish there was a least some breaks from it. No feeling of fullness etc. Went to an ENT/audiologist, said nothing can be done except trying to mask it with noise etc.

It's just so so hard and I just have at this point no hope it will ever go away since I haven't had even a minute of peace from it for almost a month and it wasn't caused by anything sudden or anything I can think of from the past at all.

Just struggling a lot.

I'm sorry about your suffering, but at least I can welcome you here on the forum :)

it wasn't caused by anything sudden or anything I can think of from the past at all.

Do you mean that you have not had any noise/ear trauma, or have you excluded other possible causes as well?

Hey there, I'm sorry to hear that your going through this. Have you been on any medication, like antibiotics? Some drugs are ototoxic and can damage the auditory system, in some cases causing tinnitus.

Personally, I've found that speaking about it helps. Hang in there, there's a chance it will go away with time or that you'll habituate to it. You're not alone in this.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you are struggling hard with your tinnitus. It is quite common for a new tinnitus sufferer to struggle initially as the experience is new and foreign to the sufferer. We tend to zoom in on T all the time and monitor it. But after some time, people generally improve on this and they can then focus on other aspects of their life. So be ready for this initial struggle. Try to mask the ringing if it gets too bothersome, and try to get back to living as much as you humanly can. If sleep is a problem, try melatonin as it is a natural stuff better than sleep prescription by the doctor. Hope your condition will improve. Give it some time. Take care. God bless.

It has been constant 24/7
It is Always like that.
no hope it will ever go away
Actually, there is still hope of it fading. If you experience fading or change in the pitch sometime over the next 2-3 months, then it ought to continue to fade and you will hopefully get to the "can hear it only in quiet rooms" stage.

You will want to make sure that you don't hurt your ears during this period of vulnerability as your body is healing. You will want to ensure that you avoid taking ototoxic drugs, that you don't have microsuction done (if you need to clean wax out of your ears; a manual tool should be used), and that you don't have your dental hygienist doesn't use an ultrasonic scaling tool on you (a manual tool should be used). No noise/ear trauma. Other possible causes, looked through some but cant seem to pinpoint anything.

Thanks for the reply. Trying to hang in there. No antibiotics etc but I have been on for over a year, oroxine 50mg for thyroid.

Thanks so much for the reply. Yes exactly, its just so hard not to zoom in on it all the time, its good to know you adjust slightly over time.

Thanks so much for the reply and tips. I will check this thread out. I hope it fades or changes, it has not yet but like you said only been a month so it could do in time.

Just keep in mind that not all cases of tinnitus are ear-related. Most are sound-induced, but less obvious causes such as drugs/medicines, bloodflow turbulence and jaw or neck problems can give tinnitus as well. If you have had any kind of physical trauma shortly before onset, then see if that could be linked.

Oh, and take denial from specialists with a small grain of salt... I won't deny them their educational expertise, but many doctors tend to suffer from some kind of tunnel vision when it comes to tinnitus. Investigate medical articles by yourself as well and keep using your own common sense while dealing with this, and then you'll probably be fine in the end, no matter if your tinnitus gets resolved or not.

Also, don't overanalyze it, being distracted is of great value here ;)

My doctor has suggested a CT scan, since on one side etc.... anyone else had success or advice with one for this?
