@luckyme, do you have loudness or pain hyperacusis?

I too will have to travel next few weeks to see my father, albeit I will be travelling only for few hours on flight (3 hours), so I was wondering how this would fare for my hyperacusis. As you have done it recently, I would appreciate any additional advice for when travelling.

      I also suffer from ETD.

      I am so sorry I couldn't respond.

Did you make the trip? It all depends on the severity of your condition really, but I would say three hours is really short so you will be fine! What I did is wear earplugs and noise cancelling headphones for the whole flight.

Let me know how it went.

I decided not to make the trip. But thanks for the advice.

      Hi there Juan.

So many websites related to tinnitus/hyperacusis state that earplugs are useful during the flight and some say the opposite - as you have warned.

I'm at 170+ days now with mild tinnitus (severe at night) but hyperacusis is severe. I haven't flown once since being diagnosed.

I'm trying to gather as much information as possible and make a big list of the best earplugs/earmuffs/noise cancelling (active/passive) headphones etc for ascent, during flight and descent.

My question, please: Why do you not recommend earplugs during the descent? I've read that the descent is the worst time for tinnitus & hyperacusis sufferers (especially hyperacusis).

Do you have hyperacusis? Or only tinnitus and if so, how severe?

      Your help is much appreciated.

Using earplugs during descent can alter the pressure inside the ears and be really painful.

      I have hyperacusis and tinnitus.

@RealismPill, I would advise you to use molded musician earplugs for this - for the whole flight. 15-25 dB filter.

I've never had any issues with this personally.

I would not opt for closed earplugs such as foam.
