Why Judas Priest? I can pretty much pinpoint the start of my tinnitus to the summer of 1988. I was in the 6th row, center, at Alpine Valley Music Theater. Judas Priest was performing with Krokus as the support act. At the tender age of 22, I never even thought about wearing hearing protection. I was stone deaf for two days after the concert.
When my hearing returned, I had a low-level, high-pitched ringing in both ears, and it has followed me ever since… until April of this year. The first weekend of April, as I woke up, I began having a series of about four or five loud tinnitus spikes. It then leveled off and remained constant for the rest of the day, but it was about twice as loud as what I had been used to before April. It's now the end of July, and I'm still dealing with the same situation.
One interesting note: I was prescribed Buspar, and after taking just one pill, about an hour later, my tinnitus would spike whenever I moved my eyes. Moving my eyes in any direction would result in momentary spikes of tinnitus. Eventually, the strange eye effect went away after a couple of hours, and I discontinued the Buspar.
Other odd things: I can change the intensity of my tinnitus by turning my head all the way to the left or right. I can also get the same effect by clenching my jaw.
