The speaker phone I've been using for years (GE model 2-9316B made by Thomson Electronics) has bit the dust. This model isn't made anymore. I really loved it because the volume control allowed me to lower the volume, both dial tone and receiver, to virtually 0 dB and increase it to where I wanted it without any additional sound. I bought an ATT speaker phone but the sound on it starts out way above my comfort level, plus it has noisy beeps when you adjust the sound. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with a speaker phone that has an adjustable sound level that starts out very quiet like my old phone. Thanks.

Look on Amazon for speaker phones and compare their features. You can also post a question on the product page of whatever speaker phone you're considering and ask if it has the type of volume control you want. People who have already purchased a product are usually pretty good about responding to questions.
