      Music. Balloon. Genes.
      Because it's unusual to be a professional musician. But his deafness is noise-induced for sure : "But the years spent playing arenas at deafening volumes have taken their toll".

      I think when it comes to musicians it's easier to write a list of people who don't have it.

      going for a rim shot on the snare drum.
      Why is that? I feel like many dont protect their ears and somehow have managed to avoid it.

      A high percentage of professional musicians have got tinnitus. The reason is because of the constant exposure to loud noise, especially in the older generations. It's more of a trend nowadays to use noise isolating in ear monitors, which should help the newer generations, but there's still a risk of T because of all the rehearsals. Most bands don't use any protection during rehearsals, but this could be helped by educating people and raising a bit of awareness.
