Hello,

I'm considering taking Mirtazapine (7.5 mg), as I suffer from severe insomnia and depression, along with distressing tinnitus.

At this point, I'm so overwhelmed by my symptoms that I would not mind taking Mirtazapine long-term if it actually helps. However, if it does not work or causes difficult side effects, I'm worried about the possibility of permanently worsening my existing tinnitus after stopping the medication.

So my questions for those who have taken Mirtazapine are:
  • Did your tinnitus worsen after stopping the medication? If so, did it eventually return to baseline?
  • What effect, if any, did Mirtazapine have on your tinnitus while you were taking it?
Thank you so much,
Ernesto

I have tried Mirtazapine. I haven't noticed much difference during the day. Maybe slightly louder tinnitus at night, but I'm not sure. I do sleep a lot better, though.

I've been on Mirtazapine for only two weeks so far, taking 7.5 mg nightly. It has worked great for my sleep, although I do feel a bit groggy the next morning. It may have lowered my tinnitus tone a bit as well.

I have been taking Mirtazapine on and off for years. It does not seem to have affected my hearing when I compare audiograms. Regarding tinnitus, it is hard to tell, as mine is now influenced by so many factors and is extremely intrusive with multiple tones.

I think Mirtazapine is one of the safer antidepressants when it comes to tinnitus. It certainly helps with sleep at low doses. I have never taken more than 15 mg. If your sleep is really bad, it is probably worth trying.
