Music Production Tips for Tinnitus Sufferers

I thought I'd start a new thread for sharing tips for sound engineers / music producers.

Tip #1: Dodging the distortion

Those battling dysacusis during a mixdown can benefit from using Waves Sound Shifter and place it on the master bus. It gives you the ability to shift the mix up a semitone or so. By shifting the frequency range will allow you to to ensure that the distortions from hearing system are not present at the lower frequency.

If the distortions/sensitivity are present at the same frequency after the pitch shift then its your hearing system introducing distortions and not the audio. It takes the guess work out of the equation.

Tip #2: Low pass filter on master bus

Sometime I find that working with a low pass filter on the master bus (or control room for Cubase peeps) give my to give hearing a break. I only do this when editing though and unleash the top end when mixing and sound design. It also ensures that your track has enough meat/body with the top end just as the icing on the cake.
