What are your thoughts?

In my opinion there's something true in this. I have had tinnitus for 2 years and when I relax myself or I am busy I don't hear it, and when I try to listen to it is very mild.

If I am worried about something, or angry, and I try to listen to it, it is loud.

When I am very calm, I almost have silence.

2 years ago I could hear it over everything, now I can hear it loud only when I am excited or worried and only in quiet room. Out of home I can't hear it.

The only thing I did is try to calm and don't think about it.

It is not habituation, something is still changing, I feel it.

Sounds like a hocus pocus treatment (don't focus on tinnitus and you'll not hear it) which I don't believe much in, but should not harm to give it a try.

OP we have VERY similar experiences.

I'm convinced your brain can tune this out and that the limbic system theory holds a lot of water.

FWIW my tinnitus didn't really start to fade until after I made strides towards habituation.
