Tinnitus Since
january 2016
Cause of Tinnitus
perforated eardrum leading to sensori neural hearing loss.
3 years ago during ear wax removal doctor took out most of left eardrum. Then infection, then vertigo, then total hearing loss in left ear. Also blew out my vestibular system. Now 3 years later, constant dizziness, tinnitus, sometimes close to breakdown, and deafness in left ear. ENT sat on his hands instead of having sense of urgency. Went to Penn, Hopkins, Hershey medical center....nothing can be done.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for what had happened to your eardrum by the doctor. Have you tried masking your tinnitus? You should consult a lawyer on the possibility of a law suit against your doctor for mal-practice. Just a routine ear wax removal ending up ruining your life.

thanks. tell me more about masking....and yes i am 1 year into malpractice suit against doctor...slow process. ....

Yes, Pennsylvania. Dr. was actually a friend on mine. Total mess.

Can't say name due to litigation.

Yes, The real shame is that as soon as he realized he made a tremendous error by blowing out my eardrum, he began to distance himself from me. As I say "he ran from the bullets instead of towards the bullets"(First responder metaphor) which exacerbated something that could have been mitigated.

Rather than me complaining, here I what I learned for others to benefit: ENTs are good at ear aches, sore throats, and bloody noses. Then there are true ENT specialists that have a whole different level of knowledge. Find them and go to them rather than thinking a run of the mill ENT knows what's going on. I went to Penn and Hopkins and it was a whole different level of knowledge.

please donate every penny of that money to bio-medical research if you ever want a shot at hearing normal again.

One could go to an ENT with slight T. ENT will do an examination, tell you nothing can be done about it. ENT doesn't explain danger of T and loud noise. If you don't research next thing your T spikes. Thanks for nothing Mr. ENT!

When tinnitus is new or at a new irritating level, and the ringing is causing much anxiety and panic plus sleeplessness, it is advisable to get masking going so you won't be so anxious and fearful and can sleep better. Stress and anxiety are toxic to T. So try masking if you haven't done so. When my T was new, I used to mask all day just to prevent panic attacks from hearing my ultra high pitch loud dog whistle T. Try these if you haven't yet. Best of luck. Take good care. God bless.

1) Mask at bed time if having trouble sleeping, by using options such as a sound machine, sound pillow, headband etc. There are good sound machine & pillow therapy systems like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Sound-Oasis-...d-Oasis-Therapy-System-Speakers/dp/B00MH5HKTA

2) If you need masking on the go, try load an ipod with nature sounds or music using itune or a smart phone with which you can download free APPs for soothing or T-masking sounds. Use wisdom in the use of headphones or earbuds as extended use or excessive volume may hurt your ears. Try set the volume slightly below that of your tinnitus. Alternatively, you can use a blue tooth speaker for your phone to play masking sounds from the apps or from youtube videos of masking sounds.

3) For masking sound sources, you can try these excellent masking sounds to see which one masks best:

TT's excellent audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

or this online sound library, particularly the self-mix nature sounds: https://mynoise.net

or download free sound generator 'aire freshener': http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

or click play to mix these sounds with this simple sound generator: http://asoftmurmur.com/

or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'rain sound' or whatever sounds you want to hear.

he is totally deaf in one ear, masking seems problematic.

On another note, is it just me, or does this whole T affliction make you tired and sapped of energy? I have a few good hours in the morning then by afternoon, it's nap time for me. Was not my normal routine at all pre-T.
