Cause of Tinnitus
Most likely Microsuction
Hi there, I'm a recent tinnitus sufferer for 3 weeks come Monday. I first heard the tone about ten minutes after a microsuction by a NHS nurse. There was some brief pain during the treatment and the noise has not stopped in my left ear since. However, I was also down with the flu and very stressed around this time so who knows if that is the direct cause. While the invasive noise has given me some major grief, I want to say it is a mild or moderate volume of noise and is reasonably masked by noise. I should also state that I have no hearing loss whatsoever from what I can tell.

I have been waiting three weeks to see an ENT and had the appointment recently cancelled on me due to the bad weather here in Scotland. I have some questions and am looking for some hope.

1) Are there any success stories related to microsuction/ear syringe/inner ear trauma? I'm having difficulty in finding some. Even one about habituation would bring me a great deal of relief!

2) The noise is like an electrical high pitch 'tone' (old TV?) in my left ear. It was originally a sharper, louder tone but died down in volume quite significantly in week 2. At the end of week 2, I started hearing occasional very sharp "pings" in the left and right side of my head that last for less than a second. Can anyone comment on this? Could it be trying to start noises in my right ear? I'm guessing it's the random behavior of the tinnitus.

3) I believe I have a very minor pulsatile tinnitus case too but it rarely bothers me, could they be linked though? I have had this sensation in my head for a few months now but only audible when I lie down.

4) Sleep is very difficult, I was given amitriptyline by a local doctor (Not ENT doctor) and use masking noises but it still seems like a battle. Any tips?

5) I am taking zinc, B12 and gingko in an attempt to help. When I take the B12 and gingko, I feel a slight intensification in the tinnitus. Is this common or am I imagining things? Is it necessarily a bad thing?

Thanks for reading. I understand a lot of answers to tinnitus questions are a "maybe" but I am curious regardless.

This is what people on this forum refer to as "fleeting tinnitus." Most T sufferers experience it. Hopefully it is your body trying to recalibrate and to heal. But yes, tinnitus can sometimes spread. Mine spread to my good ear nine months after onset.

If it is real, you might consider listening to your body and to discontinue taking those supplements.

Check out the thread below where I summarize everything (27 tips) I learned about managing tinnitus after reading the posts on this forum for the past year.

Maybe, NEVER DO MICROSUCTION or EAR TESTS, EVER!

GOOD SIGN, the high pitch old tv means it will reduce.

Probably

Sound Oasis machine

I dont know

Why? Because it's less sharp than it was or because something else with that type of tone?

I had that sound in the beginning and it went away leaving electrical buzzing from wires, it was quite mild T that can be only heard in quiet places, not bothersome.

b12 and ginkgo together might not be a good idea because both are doing the same thing in increasing blood flow to your ear. Maybe try one or the other. Id opt for the b12 over the ginkgo but maybe try alternating just not doing both together.

Thank you for the kind replies everyone, I appreciate it.

The tinnitus seems to still be getting quieter or I am tolerating it a lot more. I did not mask it at all yesterday except when I slept. I should be OK if this keeps up.

I've had some strange symptoms such as sudden moments of very light fatigue and sweating (nothing extreme, no vertigo, just sense of weakness) and my left ear does feel a tiny bit congested but I suspect this is the work of my complete diet change and the amitriptyline which may be doing more harm than good.

My mother lives with chronic pain and my father lives with cancer and are an inspiration. I'm very confident I can beat this or learn to live with it. I will not let it beat me.
