Hi. I'm Allan and I've been suffering for about 2 years with electrical hissing/screaming in my ears.
I've never figured out exactly what started it, I work in a call center but for about 5 years I was in an offline team where I didn't need a headset, we called the customers using a normal phone handset.
In 2015, I was moved onto a frontline team which took inbound calls via a headset all day - a month or two into this role I started getting what I thought was constant migranes that were lasting for days at a time. I spoke with my line manager who asked me to describe what was happening, he luckily had had people in his team previously with tinnitus so he recognized it and advised I went to my local doctor, which I did.
I was referred to my local hospitals Ear Nose & Throat clinic where my hearing was tested fully and confirmed that it was indeed tinnitus.
After this diagnosis, my work were really good, they gave me offline tasks to perform and eventually I was moved to the live chat team where we generally don't have the need to speak over the phone at all which was an absolute god send for a long time, as it was a more quiet environment it was easier to concentrate and I could speak to the people around me, the tinnitus was usually manageable.
I'm hoping this forum will help me by talking with other people about the condition, Myself and my Ear doctor have agreed it is mostly stress that brings on the really bed periods where the noise is so bad that i cannot concentrate on what I am doing and want to smack my head off the desk.
