I have new rapid atrial fibrillation...

In emergency now.


Doctor wants me to have metoprolol.

Anyone offer me some urgent advice.

Just tell them about your tinnitus but if helps get your heart in sinc then it's got to be a good thing....

I took propranolol (same chemical family) for years and it never seemed to make the tinnitus worse.

What dose did you take?

I took it daily at range of 40-80mg. It was actually for about two years. I was using it as an anti-anxiety medication (it blocks the effects of adrenaline to some extent.)

I've seen the figure for tinnitus as a side-effect quoted as being about 1%. As to what it may do with existing tinnitus I don't know. A stroke from rapid AF however could open Pandora's music box.
