Tinnitus Since
07/2013
Hey guys. I've recently had the on set of Tinnitus in my ears. I've noticed it more when I go to bed or wake up or if it's quiet at work. I've gone to my GP today to get a referral to go to a hearing specialist and also get custom earplugs made up. At the moment I'm finding it a bit hard to concentrate at times and have mild headaches plus my ears feel sensitive to loud sounds like dogs barking ect.

The cause (stupidly) was about 10 years of loud concerts which whilst I tried to where plugs often there were times where I didn't wear them and the next morning my ears were buzzing so it's my fault and I'm not trying to correct. It's a shame as my dad has very bad tinnitus from industrial noise which greatly affected his sleeping and resulted on being on small doses of Valium. So even though I am effected with tinnitus, after seeing my dad going through it it's something I can't ignore.

I will see my hearing specialist in the next week and see the extent and then go from there. I still do a lot of stuff with music and live shows so I will have to see how this effects that. I hope it's some I will still be able to manage with my tinnitus.

Cheers.

@da3007; Welcome to TT! Good to know that your T is still in the initial stages, please maintain it that way! Always use earplugs when you step outta the house and also when you're practicing. Go through the forum for various information and solutions, and keep us updated about the state of your T. Have a great week ahead!

Thanks MT09.

So the GP didn't find anything wrong with my ears (didn't expect him to) however I got a hearing check done today and they said my hearing was fine and there was no loss in either ear. I was surprised as I expected some lose.

So I guess my next step is to go back to my GP and then possibly go to a ear nose and throat doctor.

Also I have been grinding my teeth in my sleep for the last 4 years which I wear a mouth guard for when I go to bed (although at times I forget about it) so I'm curious if this contributes to my tinnitus

@da3007; The causes for T are many, and is often hard to find. But certainly, grinding your teeth might have led for the T too. Another user on this forum has experienced the same. I searched through the forum and found the post, read through: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/first-time-poster-long-time-stalker.1857/#post-15881
And yes, it's better to visit an ENT for a thorough checkup. Since you don't have hearing loss, grinding your teeth could have been the problem. Verify with your doc.
