I have had both low-pitch and high-pitch tinnitus for quite some time.
Recently, I developed a cricket-like noise that only appears with external sound. The louder the external sound, the louder the crickets become. It basically sounds like a thousand crickets. In silence, I hear my other severe tinnitus tones, but not the crickets.
I do not know what caused this, since there was no acoustic trauma. It is absolutely debilitating. I cannot sleep in silence because of my other tinnitus tones, but now I also cannot sleep with a fan or white noise because it makes the crickets louder.
It feels so dehumanizing and bizarre. I feel as if I am at my parents' house during summer by the creek, listening to crickets and cicadas, yet it is winter and I am in the city. I do not think I will get over this one. I am at my breaking point and honestly do not want to go on anymore.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has the same symptoms. Did it get better? Is it still the same? Were you able to lead a normal life and find happiness again?
Thank you for your time.
