Old Tinnitus---New Member

I've had tinnitus for a long time. I don't remember when I noticed it or what caused it but it's been something I could ignore for the most part---until just recently.

I moved to Houston and I started to become ill right away. I have allergies to mold and dust so we think that might be the reason for my being so down and out. I've been here a month and am so tired and fatigued that I am not really functioning.

I've always been ultra sensitive to everything---any kinds of drugs or supplements, caffeine, wheat, dairy, noise, certain kinds of light... not having a whole lot of fun in this body in this life.

Since moving here a month ago the tinnitus has been horrible--not like anything I've experienced before. Left ear---high pitched ringing. Loud.

I used to have tinnitus in both ears but the left ear is so loud now I can only hear it in the left ear.

Two nights ago, my husband's car alarm went off when I was standing behind it and something happened to my left ear--the one that's been bothering me with loud tiinitus since I moved to Houston.

Since then, I now feel a heartbeat intermittently in the ear as well as the tinnitus. When the car alarm went off, I could feel a bit of pain but also some weird feeling in the ear.

So I'm just starting my research here. I'm wondering if anyone has the experience of allergies contributing to tinnitus?

What do I try first as a possible treatment now?

I'm 55, by the way and both parents had hearing loss by 65-to 70, although no tinnitus.1

You have had tinnitus for quite a while and therefore, I think you should be referred to ENT for tests on your auditory system. If the tests show everything is normal then I advise seeing a Hearing Therapist or Audiologist who's trained in the treatment and management of tinnitus. Please click on the links below and read my articles on tinnitus that you might find helpful. Try to read them in full and not skim through them.
