My story is long but I thought I would give as many details as possible.

In October 2014, a rapid thumping started in my left ear and was on and off for the first three days ( it was barely noticeable). By the third day, it was constant and although I felt no pain it was almost impossible to ignore making sleeping so incredibly difficult. I visited a clinic after a week and was told it had something to do with my sinuses and was prescribed a steroid nasal spray (Beconase aqueous nasal spray) to use for a week. I was also advised that if I steam my face for about 15 mins the thumping went away for an hour or two which worked sometimes but not all the time. After a few days the thumping went away. I continued to use the spray for a whole week but lowered the dosage. The thumping went away for a full week but then came back. I went to the GP and was given a different milder nasal spray (Avamys) and was given a referral to an ENT specialist. In the weeks whilst waiting, the thumping would be on for a few hours and then off for a few (I was still using Avamys). By now it was November 2014 and I received a letter from the ENT that my appointment would be in January 2015. And then one night in November, the thumping was incessant and I was stressed as I was trying to revise for an exam I had the next day. Then suddenly the thumping was louder and faster than it had ever been before I heard a woosh and the noise went quieter and quieter before it went away (this all happened in about 20 seconds). After that the thumping completely went away. I still went to the ENT appointment in January where I explained all this to the doctor. Because I had been fine for two months, the appointment was quick and the doctor said it may just have been pulsatile tinnitus. I didn't really agree as I was convinced it was an issue with my sinuses since the sprays and the steaming worked and the thumping would also get worse if I pushed down on the front of my cheekbone on the left side of my face. After this, I had no issues for two blissful years.

And then in December 2016, I took a long haul flight abroad. A few days into my trip, I was woken suddenly in the night by thumping in my RIGHT ear. I didn't think too much of it (as to not stress out) and thought maybe it was because of the flight. The thumping was quick and only lasted about 5 mins before I went back to sleep. in the two weeks I was abroad, this happened about three times. When I got back home to England, it became more frequent although it was still on and off. I began to feel down and upset as it brought terrible emotions and feelings from how unhappy I was two years ago. The thumping would go away for a week, and then come back before I finally decided to book a GP appointment in January 2017, although this was a different GP to the one I had previously as I am away at university. I explained everything to her and she prescribed me with Nasobec Aqueous nasal spray which I used for two weeks even though I had no thumping. I had no thumping in my ears for about 8 weeks. Until last week where the on and off thumping has begun again. I have read so many things online and I just have no idea what is causing this (I'm not sure its my sinuses anymore as nothing I tried two years ago is working now). I'm just so sick and tired of this. I have a better handle of how it affects my emotions now than I did two years ago but some days it makes me so feel low. I'm trying to book another ENT specialist appointment so I can hopefully finally discover the cause and hopefully a solution.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
