Hi everyone! I'm new here. My first post was a few days ago. I am very grateful for this site and its contributors as I feel I am not alone in this. Given I am an analytical / numbers type person, I'm interested in knowing how many of us on this site have hearing loss along with our tinnitus. Thanks in advance for your participation.

For the sake of this poll, hearing loss will be defined as a drop of over 25 dB in any frequency up to 8 kHz.

My tinnitus is in the 14khz range, and so is my hearing loss.

Standard audiological testing up to 8khz may not be very useful for diagnosing tinnitus, especially tinnitus which is higher-pitched than that.

Based on the criteria you've laid out in your poll, I do not have any hearing loss -- but in fact, I know that I do have a notch around 14khz in my bad ear, and I am quite confident that is related to my tinnitus.

About 60 dB loss between 3 kHz and 10 kHz and then the loss gets worse.

@Foncky Thanks for participating. Your hearing loss pattern is somewhat similar to mine. Was the onset of your hearing loss / tinnitus sudden?

@Rubenslash Thanks for your reply. If you don't mind me asking, what caused your ototoxicity? Where your symptoms sudden?

Hearing loss for me, too. A straight down drop from normal at 4k to 75dB at 6k. It stays around there until it crawls back up to 50dB at 16k.

At the beginning of this, I would have had to answer no even though I think the answer was yes even when all of my hearing was in the normal range. Now I have only a 30 db drop at 250 Hz but it fluctuates. I think a period of a lot of anxiety coupled with probably some minor damage is what ultimately did me in.

I think it started right after my first trauma. The second trauma just made it worse.

This hearing loss dicussion leads to nowhere in my opinion. Even if I had hearing loss ( like almost everybody nowadays btw), related to the intensity of my T I should be deaf

I've just found this thread as I am rushing in a train heading a conference. Dont have time to read all the post so this maybe has been already mentioned.
Common hearing test doesn't go above the 8000hz. If you hear in that range ENT will give you an "all is fine" seal. If you have hearing loss from 8000hz up to the end of the range you most likely have tinnitus due to hearing loss.
Now I have to keep running, stressing and ringing.

Although this is true and I even might have some hearing loss in the upper regions, I stick to the impression that its very weird not being affected by hearing loss at all but pretty much by t.
Sometimes I see happy people with hearing aid, they really have hearing loss but rarely suffer from t.
Even though there might be a correlation, imho it is to weak to lead us/science somewhere.

Apparently, the most common cause of tinnitus is hearing loss.... not so in this poll.

Something like 70% of people with hearing loss have tinnitus, so i wouldn't say they rarely suffer from tinnitus or that the correlation is week.
Probably depends a lot on whether the audiogram goes high enough to show the loss that's reflects the pitch of the tinnitus.
