      Tinnitus Since:
Years ago, I was suffering from depression which was greatly exacerbated by tinnitus. I was at work and it was extremely quiet in the place where I was working at the time. A medication I was taking screwed up my tinnitus even worse. I became so distraught I about had a nervous breakdown. Fortunately, I had enough strength to get through today and I was able to go home and listen to some masking noises to help calm me down. I don't want this to scare anyone. I am so much better now as I have found ways to lower the T some and deal with it a lot better. Also, there are times when I have tuned it out and it is like it isn't even there.

      Probably sound, though never proven
A better question may be "has tinnitus ever rendered you unable to focus on your job properly"

"Nervous breakdown" is awfully specific, and dramatic.
