      Hey everyone,

I was wondering if tinnitus is always loud or loudest at the onset in the first YEAR.

Many people out there live fine with mild or moderate tinnitus (moderate being harder). I am wondering if that’s because they went through the hardest times at the beginning and tinnitus almost always gets quieter and quieter as time goes on (assuming proper hearing protection / no more acoustic traumas)?

In your experience did your tinnitus fade significantly after the first 3-6 months up to 1 year or even 2 years?

I have also added a poll.

      Thanks.

For me it was way louder last year and it started to get lower last month, mostly at night when I lay in bed in complete silence.

My tinnitus was the same tone for the first 8 months. At about the 8 month mark it began to cycle with a mild days interspersed with loud days. Every month since it seems to be going higher in frequency as well. The mild days are becoming a little more frequent too. When it first started I could hear it over everything except the shower or water running in the sink. On my really mild days now I can only hear it in a quiet room. I hope this is all a step in the right direction for me. My t also has a thinner sound, and it's more in my affected ear. When it started it was a loud ringing sound filling my head. Now it's more of a buzzing, and sometimes a high frequency hiss. I have a 6 month follow-up with my ent today. Not feeling very positive, but I'm trying to see the bright side. Definitely better than a year ago.

2 years in - has stayed the same.

EDIT: Wait.....my tinnitus is actually worse then when it started. It started in my left ear only and about 75% of the volume it is now, where it is also in both ears. The change happened 3-4 days after onset though.

.......If that thing ever becomes something us sufferers can get our actual hands on. I am seriously starting to doubt.

10 years in and I’d say the volume of my baseline tinnitus has stayed the same but I’ve acquired more tones over the years
