Progressive Hearing Loss?

I got my tinnitus and hyperacusis from noise exposure. It was accumulative. I find it weird but, my hearing keeps progressively getting worse. I've noticed a minor change in it in the past few week. I'm not freaked out too much since I expect my ears to be wacko since I damaged them. I mostly notice it in silent rooms. Things seem... off? Like somethings missing.

I've also noticed when I hear something is considered loud from my Hyperacusis, like a dog bark. My hearing gets distorted and comes back. I find it peculiar that my dog's bark would cause such an effect. This is only when they bark like, twice.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on? I'd appreciate some advice.

 

You should get your ears tested.
Having said that. I remember when I had T onset, I also had hyperacusis for about 2 weeks. That was hell.
I couldn’t imagine living with that.. the sound of dishes was painful. So good job staying strong with that.

But you may be missing frequencies so you’re not getting the whole sound if that makes sense.

Do you notice certain songs sound and differently?

I’m not sure what else it could be except you’re hyperacusis or gradual hearing loss.

 

I got my hearing tested early on and it showed no hearing loss. Of course I was sure I had hearing loss after my Temporary shift turning into a permanent shift. That being said I hope its not gradual.

Its been a good few months since onset and I still have hyperacusis. .-. *sad face* but its not near as bad it use to be thankfully.

My ENT and audiologist didn't know jack squat. They also said I had no hearing loss when I got tested. They looked at my tinnitus as something small. I don't trust specialists most of the time anymore because of them. Of course I'll follow their advice but, they are not reliable sources for things like this. Which is truly ironic since it is their "specialty".

 

I am sure i have hearing loss even though audiogram came back normal, it just dosent feel "right".

 

I think the most important thing is that I can function unassisted.

Your perception can be way off, compared to a testing done by a audiologist. Don't rely too much on your perception. If you feel that your hearing is getting worst, then possibly go see a professional and see the results. Don't sit and think about things and just bother yourself more

I’m exactly in your position right now. I also listened to loud music on my ear buds for a few years although never more than one or two songs at a time. I did this on and off with weeks in between. Now I’m less than two weeks in and I’m freaking out about the future. Technically it started around the same time as you but it was so quiet I decide to ignore it. Now it’s a full blown hiss in both ears with an electrical static or buzz type sound with electrical zaps that are high pitched. They come and go instantly. Sometimes it feels like they are brought on by subtle muscle movements or spams in the head. It’s strange and I have yet to encounter a post with something similar. I also had sensitivity but it’s better now and some ear fullness with pain but I’m sure it’s my jaw causing it. No TMJ diagnosis. My audiogram showed mostly zero’s and five’s with the lowest drop being a ten. Honestly it doesn’t feel like that. I feel like I struggle with soft sounds now and feel that I have to turn up my volume bar a few notches on my phone and tv. Has anything improved or gotten worse for you? Has anybody else with acoustic trauma recovered with good hearing?

 

A drop of 5 dB is a doubling in perceptible volume so if you had previously been at 0 or 5 dB threshold and immediately dropped down to a 5 or 10, it would be noticeable to you. I know what you're talking about it though.

 

Yeah I have a simliar situation but I have no measurable hearing loss on my audiogram however my perception of soft sounds and stuff are not the same. One ear is less clear than the other. Its a little harder to understand in noisy environments now. Everyone sounds like "word vomit" as I like to call it.

Your explanation sounds much like other peoples I've read. I have hyperacusis so my eardrum likes to flutter at sounds that cause me discomfort, I call it an "ear flap flap" .

Looking at the date you got tinnitus, your fullness and pain will go away. Those are signs of trauma done to the ear. But the symptoms such as fullness, pain, warmth will go away.

Since you are new, feel free to private message me about these issues if you are feeling anxious. Usually in the beginning everyone is stressed and anxious. I call this the "ol doom and gloom" because people are essentially paranoid, anxious and depressed off the walls. Its very important to manage that and understand what is happening.
