Cause of Tinnitus
Ear infection/perforated ear drum
I had an ear infection back in April, and after traveling abroad, the pressure during landing caused both of my eardrums to rupture. They took about two months to heal, but for the past few months, I have been experiencing pulsatile tinnitus in my left ear.

It does not seem to match my pulse exactly, but the ENT mentioned that it can sometimes be irregular. These beats typically start after I wake up and continue through the morning, often lasting into the afternoon. They usually occur as a single beat, followed by a 20 to 30 second pause before the next one. I've also noticed that yawning or burping can sometimes trigger them.

The ENT did not offer much advice, only suggesting I book another appointment if the symptoms get worse.

After a quick online search, some possible alternatives to pulsatile tinnitus include:
  • Middle ear myoclonus
  • Stapedius muscle spasms
  • Tensor tympani myoclonus
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues
Has anyone experienced something similar after an ear infection or perforated eardrum? If so, how did you manage it? Did it resolve on its own over time?
