Reasons for Hope?

hello. about once a year, i find myself in situations where i'm exposed to noise which although not troubling to most anyone else present, causes my ears to go wild. they will then hurt and be full of loud whistling noises for weeks (or sometimes a month or two).

it eventually settles down to basically nothing until the next noise mishap. when these mishaps occur i get very depressed and then i come to this site hoping for positive news on the treatment front. this has yet to happen due to no fault of this site, but the slow pace of medical progress.

i'm just wondering if anyone could offer me any news they feel is positive regarding treatment. i have gone through the various subforums here and it does seem things are more positive than they've been. am i wrong on that? but yes, does anyone have anything they're feeling particularly positive about? any rays of hope? thank you!

also...does anyone share my issue...i have really bad tmj. i've had jaw surgery and have been told even with full reconstructive jaw surgery, my jaw will be a mess for the rest of my life. it's actually sticking into my ear canal. but i'm pretty sure this affects how tinnitus affects me. i can, for instance, modulate the sounds in my ears by moving my grinding jaw up and down. like a sad instrument. i don't know if it's possible the tmj also makes me more sensitive to noise and makes the process of my ears recovering harder. and also, perhaps, makes the tinnitus noises louder? just curious if anyone has something similar...

  • Epilepsy: Xenon Pharma - Xen-1101 (improved version of retigabine/trobalt, phase 2 anticipated to start by the end of 2018)

check the threads, I linked all of them.
  • All of them have tested on humans before which they have to in order to pass phase 1. These trials are the first stage of testing in human subjects.
  • However, phase 1 is usually more focused on making sure the drug/device is safe rather than effective.
  • Phase 2 and 3 are where it gets interesting when it comes whether a potential treatment might help or not.
