I can not believe it. I am so careful about my tinnitus & hyperacusis.

I always wear earmuffs when walking around my community.

Yesterday, while I was walking, a school bus braked near me.

My tinnitus spiked loudly. This morning, I feel my hyperacusis has got worse!

This could be due to my reactive tinnitus which is more sensitive to noise.

I post this thread just to vent my anger.

Were you wearing the muffs when this happened? If so, then don't discount anxiety as the culprit, here. I wasn't there, so obviously don't know how loud the sound was or how long it lasted, but our anxiety about these things can so often make it worse. I don't know what muffs you have, but if you had them on, then it seems they would have offered at least some kind of protection, which might help you relax a little bit as you think about it. These unexpected jolts can really get the best of us, sometimes. I hope things have calmed down for you as the day has gone on. Best to you.

I'm most likely going to get shot down for this, but I'll say it anyway: I don't think you should be wearing earmuffs just for the sake of it. In my opinion, your spike was caused because the sound of the bus breaking has made you freak out. Your brain has gone into overdrive because you have had a bad emotional response to it, and now your T is spiking as a result.

Try to relax and I'm pretty sure you'll be absolutely fine.

That's ok. We need to vent in life and it's great when people can listen to us. Don't worry, we are here for you :)

Thank you all for encouraging and understanding.
I really want to overcome my fear of the T & H.
I see a lot of threads in TT ... how they ignore the noise and succeed.
These are the guideline for me to learn.

Last few days are tough for me. I want to thank all my tinnitus friends.
Hoping that I go through the spike OK.

Rob in all honesty, it's all about trying and just making those small efforts....
that eventually gain you that big result.
Nothing happens overnight, we have to keep working at it to achieve our goals.

I have been on dating websites quite a few times. Yes, my tinnitus is HORRIBLE and at times I ask myself "what the heck are you going to do?" How can entertain a beautiful woman, with those damaged ears? You know what, I will always try and just figure a way out. It's all about trying and keep trying. I been trying hard, I always try hard. I must have taken over 100 photos of myself (my camera hates me). I got together with a childhood buddy and we went to my high school. It has been over 30 years since I visited that high school.

We use to take yearbook photos in certain areas of that high school. So I told my old buddy, let's re-live our youth again and take new photos from those same spots 30+ years later. So that's what we did. we took some amazing pics and it brought us back to 30+ years ago. The time machine was amazing and gave me and him another 30 years of memory.

I have been on dating websites and have written 100s of profile and all of them sucked badly..lol

So I took one of the new pics that I took and again wrote another profile and gave it another try. I had given up on the dating website many times. To me it was a waste of time. I just kept at it and kept at it. It's like tinnitus and us trying to cope, habituate and LIVE our lives.

I wrote a new profile, put a new pic up and in the last days i must have had conversations with 3-4 women and It is slowly paying off.

It's hard at times, we feel like giving up. Our tinnitus can be brutal and we see no hope. All I gotta say is to just hang in there. keep trying and trying. try different things (be safe of course) to possibly feel better. In time things CAN work out....

Be blessed....
