aeroplane barotrauma (Otitus media)
Hi, I'm new here.

On October 17, I experienced the worst pain while descending on a flight. For the last two weeks, I've been suffering from barotrauma. I was prescribed antibiotics and Flixonase nasal spray, but nothing seems to be working. I just can't get my Eustachian tube to unblock, and it has now developed into continuous tinnitus.

I'm at my wits' end. I saw a nurse at my clinic, but she said the hospital won't do anything because it's still too early.

Please, if anyone has any advice, I'm desperate.

I had it once and tried chewing bubblegum. It helped a little, but I think time was what really helped me heal. It took about four weeks, and then it was gone. I hope it gets better for you.

A short course of oral steroids can help if you can tolerate the potential side effects. Prednisone reduces inflammation and helps dry out the inner ear, which can make it easier for the Eustachian tubes to open. A brief round of steroids might be beneficial.
