Hi there, I have been reading this forum all week, so many people are dealing with this stuff and my heart goes out to you!!

Twelve days ago my fiancee slapped me right on the ear with enough force to make my glasses fly off, then I had a huge ringing tone in that ear for at least ten minutes, then a lower volume ringing since then, I can lose track of it if I'm working but if I stop it's always there. Nights have been awful.

I can't get an appointment with an audiologist for the next three weeks but I'm waiting on another ear specialist to check me out urgently.

I saw a general practitioner two days after and he said that there was no damage to the ear drum or any visible signs of damage, and that it would fade as my hearing habituates to it.

I kinda know what a futile question this is but.. What is the chance this will go away? I have had a cold.. and my ears have been through a bit with playing live music, but never had ringing this bad for this long.

I'm a professional musician and often do mastering work, I feel so broken, all because of my partner's anger problem. I kinda feel like my life is a little bit over and can't stop thinking about this lasting forever. Thanks, hope everyone else is hanging in there.

I'm sorry for what happened and hope no one ever hits you again.

You are under a lot of stress which heightens your awareness of the ringing. There are many people here which will answer after me with recommendations.

All I can say is try to stay calm. Take care of yourself not to get stressed out even though a lot is going on. Don't read too much in this forum for now. Try to deescalate the situation.

At least it has reduced from the original loudness. Mine never did. You will be okay. But as a musician you may need to ask other musicians about ear protection.

I will follow your posts here. Hoping things settle down and your distress is calmed as much as possible.

I would seriously reconsider any relationship where someone slapped you so hard that it left you debilitated with tinnitus, very scary.

This is the PG response. If anyone ever induced my Tinnitus, a person, doctor, etc they would pay dearly. He could have changed your life for the worse. However since your tinnitus has already gone down some you should be OK. Yeah the cold could have helped with the Tinnitus too.

Thanks for all your replies, it's still here this morning but i'm not thinking of it as something that is going to ruin my day.. being positive is definitely my best bet right now.. still haven't caught an available audiologist but crossing my fingers..

I understand and share the attitude about my partner's actions.. this is not my first relationship where this sort of thing has happened, i'm male, six foot and over 200 pounds and i'm taking it as a blessing that I've never fought back.. ironically we have been in counseling and talking about my anger, but not hers.. thanks again and hope you are all having a good day, really great community here xoxo

Hi, So sorry to hear that you got slapped on the ear, this happened to me almost me almost two years ago and unfortunately I still have it as well as slight hypercausis which is an intolerance to loud noise. I was laying in bed when I did something that annoyed my wife unknowing to her I was laying with my head on my side she went to give me a slap and it ended up completely sealing my left ear, It was like an tsunami of sound waves entering my ear going deeper and deeper, when she pulled her hand off my ear which was very quick the most horrible noise you could imagine raged from my ear. My first words were what did you do that for you have just destroyed my life. The sound was so bad and I knew this was not going to go away anytime soon.So here I am two years later so many doctors and specialist appointments , so many tears I have cried. The trouble with tinnitus well in my case what starts in the ear progresses to the brain. I have had to cut out so many foods due to the salt intake that I have now a very bland diet. This is not to say that you will not get better, I pray you do as well as well as every other sufferer worldwide with this horrible condition. My life goes on,I am still working, I go on holidays and try my best to enjoy life. I am still with my wife as we have five grown up children and two grandchildren. I know she is sorry for what she did and she try's to support me the best she can. Like myself before I had tinnitus, I never knew really what it was. I remember going for work medicals and them asking if you have ringing in your ears, whats that? We can all relate to a stomach ache or a headache toothache etc , etc, but the general population can not relate to tinnitus. Hence we have no real relief available. Please keep a positive outlook, I took 2.5 ml Valium each night for about six months to help me relax and sleep, I found a you-tube sound therapy noise that is fantastic for me it has like white noise with high pitched beeps I play this sound and my tinnitus almost goes away as I am now listening to an external sound that almost sounds like my tinnitus, amazingly it cuts it out. I always play this sound therapy at night going to sleep or during the day when it is bad ,drink plenty of water, and make sure you get to sleep as this is what helps you cope during the day. All the best. Steve , Adelaide South Australia

This is shocking and disgraceful and shows that domestic violence does not just happen to women. It is never acceptable to be violent to a partner, man or woman. I know that is not why you asked for advice but whether or not this harm goes I agree with @coffee_girl . It's just be 12 days so hopefully yours will go. A cold can make it louder, I have a cold right now and mine is far louder and has spread to both ears although it's usually just in one.

Hey just an update, seeing as i have seen a lot of threads like this go cold without a follow-up.. I had my ears looked at as well as a wax suction..I have a weak equalising (pop) in that ear as well and the nurse would like to eliminate that as a factor, but the real news is that the ringing has stopped for the meantime.. so happy and also thinking of you all dealing with this 24/7, bless you all for your help.

I do not take your words about her actions lightly at all, thanks as well for reiterating this.. hope you all have a good weekend xx

Excellent news. I definitely agree with the other forum members in regards to your partners behaviour. Coffee girl said it all. However you are the only one the can make the hard call in regards to your relationship.

Jesus, Tinnitus is as horrible as it is, when it happens on its own, i would drop a person if they did that to me in a milisecond.
I hope you will feel better. Make sure she (or anyone) doesn't hit you again.
