- Cause of Tinnitus
- SSHL (moderate) in LE
Hi everybody - new to the forum and grateful to know it exists!
Back in mid-July, I had an episode that started as what seemed like a slight balance issue and evolved in to mild to moderate low frequency hearing loss in my left ear (my ENT diagnosed it as SSHL but it could be cochlear hydrops). A few weeks later, a pretty bad tinnitus set in, as well as some sound distortion and sensitivity.
In the past few weeks, I've actually noticed that the I'm somewhat getting used to the tinnitus, but there is one element that is really causing me to struggle. When I hear a sound, especially electronic speech over a computer or phone but often times live speech as well, there is sort of low crash or sound that accompanies this noise in my bad ear. What's strange is that it happens even if I plug or cover the bad ear (i.e. even if the sounds are coming in through my good ear.)
Has anyone here experienced this, or better yet experienced it and managed to overcome it? Going through the boards, I've kind of put myself in a panic believing that for some reason this form of tinnitus or hyperacusis doesn't fade or is impossible to habituate. I'm worried this will effectively derail my career, as communicating with people over phone, video and in-person is like 90% of my job.
Grateful for any thoughts, advice or words of support!
