I emailed him yesterday out of curiousity of what has been going on. He has moved his clinic to somewhere else in Seoul, and he rebranded to Solsam Clinic. He also has apparently patented his treatment in South Korea and Russia, and is also working on a kit for other doctors to replicate his work. If I can get documents of his patents, that would at least show more credibility. I wonder if his kit could somehow get into America.

If his treatment acquires a good reputation, I wonder if it can be combined with Wilden's laser? Perhaps it could enhance the effects or compensate for some previously reported potential negatives. Of course, Dr. Shim would have to prove himself first.

Plane tickets to South Korea are expensive alone, and the treatment itself is $3,000-$6,000. It'd be a very expensive trip and most people have lives. People have, however, gone inside his former clinic to see about authenticity, and have said it was genuine. At one point I did many hours of research for digital footprints that traced the owner back ten years, and in my opinion he is at the very least a real ENT with credentials. There is no doubt in my mind that he is truly an ENT. After all, people from Stanford knew him from a work study program, and I was able to connect him with other genuine doctors.

As far as his treatment is concerned, he just needs to prove himself. I personally think that he is trying to help people and not scam them, but I'd need to see real people from outside of his websites reporting on good results before I ever say he is undeniably genuine. Maybe that kit he is working on will remove any doubt when it's released. It's unknown until then.

I am pretty sure that is how patents usually work. He says he is also making a kit so doctors can replicate his work under a license. That definitely sounds like we can have more information about it in the near future.

His new clinic sort of just started, and this is his English site. His previous Korean sites looked much better than that. I'd say that he's just domain parking right now, and investing time making an English website would probably not be a priority. I also think he is trying to conserve expenses, so investing money in an English website may not be ideal right now for similar reasons.

I am, however, interested in his Korean website.

I just had a short Skype call with Dr. Minbo Shim. He says he'd tried to sign up for TT but couldn't for whatever reason. I told him that when he tries again, he should check his email for a verification email, which are often in the Spam folders.

I think him having some interaction here would be good. It would allow for us to have some questions answered. I'd be very interested in his growth factor method. A long time ago when I was researching about the clinic, I came across a scientific publication from a Japanese biologist that discussed similar of what he was talking about. I've also seen many other publications about the effectiveness of BDNF (growth factors) on ears and otherwise, which made his treatment more plausible, which is why I've been so invested in this whole thing.

I have really bad tinnitus, unbalanced hearing, and autistic hypersensitivity that ended up being enhanced by the acquired loss and tinnitus. I also cannot understand my coworkers in mildly noisy environments. So, the idea of treatment is calming, wherever it comes from. I certainly would love to be able to hear music well again.

I'll let him speak for himself, but it might be similar (or better) than this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4159992/

Basically injecting growth factor in the round window of the ear and letting the GF do its thing.

I don't think so. It sounds like OTO's goal is to treat hidden hearing loss specifically, while I think Shim's goal is to treat everything as much as he can. Also, I misspoke when I associated Shim's growth factor with BDNF, when I have no idea what kind of growth factor it is. It could be Insulin-like Growth Factor, which was used in that paper I linked to by Norio Yammato, Takayuki Nakagawa, and Juichi Ito.

      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4159992/

There has been a lot of writings that I've read that showed that growth factor was effective against hearing loss and tinnitus, so I can't really say what's what without Shim saying so himself.

When he had his previous clinic, we had some people go there to verify that it was a real clinic. I also got a New York lawyer who was from South Korea to give his own opinion about the place. I also found his clinic on Google Maps, and found his former association with Stanford through student research. There was so much digital footprint that it was hard to deny that he was an ENT from a real clinic. People in this thread previously also found he did some treatments in Russia.

I know I am just repeating myself, but that's all I can say. We haven't had anyone from here try it out. Though I personally believe from all that hard work I did looking him up that he's completely legitimate, saying that he is 100% as an undeniable fact makes me uncomfortable, even with all that information and his patents (which I really need to double check for authenticity just to make sure).

After the personal suffering I endured, as well as the pain others have, it does sound too good to be true, even with all that information I found. I think my lingering doubt is irrational, but skepticism is healthy, I guess. Going to South Korea to have a needle injection in the ear is a big decision and knowing as much as possible before jumping into it helps.

He's been an ENT doctor for several years now, and has been advertising his method for a while as well. If he's still around advertising his treatment for that long, and hasn't gotten in trouble after making those patents, it helps with his credibility.

Really, we just need someone who can afford it be willing to go to there, try it out, and completely confirm.

Within the next few days, he will be on the forum making a thread, so keep an eye out for that. He will be answering any questions.

I know not what that is supposed to mean, but it sounds like anxiety control and mindfulness. I think...

Was this talking about his growth factor treatment? He does other stuff too. He is a certified ENT after all.

Oh hey, looks like he does in fact have patent/trademark registrations. Unfortunately the website doesn't allow me to paste direct pages... but he seems to have quite a few stuff published. Look up Minbo Shim on this website. There is at least one page that is irrefutably associated to him, the Cheong-Min Regeneration. I am having trouble translating this stuff unfortunately though. Okay just read the patent using the South Korean patent site's high tech machine translator and did some research on this technology. It looks like he has discovered a novel method of regenerating hair cells and other damaged parts of the cochlea and this technique has been verified by other experiments.

Someone needs to tell him that western tinnitus patients are very skeptical about scammers and his website is kinda scary. Other than that. This looks very very legitimate.
