Cause of Tinnitus
Perforated eardrum
I've been reading on this site a lot the past few days and see people suggest going on steroids for those with new tinnitus.

Has anyone done this and can say it worked?

I'm worried because I have a traumatic eardrum perforation, was stupidly given Neomycin/Polymyxin ear drops in the ER which I used once (3 drops) before I read they shouldn't be used with a perforation.. and a day later developed tinnitus. It has become louder over the past few days and I am worried. It's interfering with sleep and very bothersome.
I saw the ENT today who said one dose of those drops should not cause damage and the tinnitus is due to ear drum perforation and loss of hearing (even though my hearing test was fine??) and that it should go away after awhile.

But what if this is being caused by the drops and I should be doing something about it? Should I be pushing for steroid meds right now?

Thank you!

It wouldn't hurt to try prednisone. You may regret not having tried it a decade from now when your ears are still ringing.

There's not much of a chance it will help you because it usually works best for sudden sensorineural hearing loss and sometimes for tinnitus caused by loud noise.

Worth trying still!
