- Ear drop? steroid injection in the ear
Hello,
I've been reading this website for a long time. I've had tinnitus since March 2016, when I was in my teens. It started suddenly, the day after I listened to a guitar piece called Aftermath. It sounded so peaceful, but the next day, when I went to high school, my hearing changed. It was as if there was a radio static sound behind people's voices, even though I could still hear them clearly.
That day, I told my mom about it. Being a naive teenager, I trusted her when she said ear drops would help, but they only made my ear feel more clogged. It got worse, and I ended up in the ER. During that hospital visit, the doctor prescribed me steroids to take orally, but I had trouble swallowing them. Even when I managed to swallow a pill, I would vomit shortly afterward. So the doctor gave me a steroid injection directly into my ear. It was the most painful experience I've ever had.
The injection brought my hearing back completely for one day, but by the next day it got worse again, and I developed tinnitus. Audiologists later suggested cochlear implants, but they were extremely expensive. Around that time, I started researching and came across a few studies suggesting that Zinc and orange juice might help with hearing. I began taking two Zinc tablets a day and drinking as much orange juice as possible. That routine seemed to make it a bit easier for me to hear without using hearing aids. I didn't like hearing aids because they didn't block the tinnitus; in fact, they made it louder to the point that I could barely understand people.
Fast-forward seven years later, I had a similar experience while lying in bed. This time, I wasn't listening to music, but my hearing declined again. I don't remember exactly what treatment I received at that time. Then, just yesterday, I was lying in bed and later went to the bathroom. When I flushed the toilet, it sounded strange, and I noticed I couldn't hear things from a distance. I can still hear voices clearly, but at a lower volume. When washing my hands at the sink, I could barely hear the water.
Before this, my tinnitus had been very loud, but I tried to ignore it. I stopped trying once my hearing changed again. I'm planning to see an ENT soon, but I'm afraid of taking steroids again. Are there any different treatments available?
I'm also currently dealing with a chalazion on my eyelid, and I had a rash on my cheeks a few days ago. My ear vibrates at times as well.
