has anyone had this operation performed? what were the results?

Mixed from what I've looked into. The greatest problem with it is that an accurate diagnosis that justifies the surgery relies on the quality of subjective descriptions of symptoms. Its what @japongus once colourfully (and probably correctly) referred to as a "crap-shoot".
