Hello everyone! I have been lurking on these forums on and off for the past year or so. On december 23rd, when i got to bed i suddenly heard a noise i've never heard before. It had a high pitch ring, like an old tv. I went around the house to find out where this noise came from and was eventually shocked to find out it came from my own ears. The ringing was in both ears, and it was really loud. I finally fell asleep thinking it had to be gone by morning, but it is still here to some degree. The following 4 months where filled with anxiety, fear, panic- attacks and hopelessness. I eventually started to become more and more used to the sound and i found out that i could alter the sound by pressing on my pterygiod muscles and temporalis muscle. I learned that this was called somatic tinnitus, as i had no hearing damage.

I did alot of research on this topic, and found Kjetil Larsen here in norway who is a muscle and biomechanics specialist, who has helped med alot! I will be posting a post in the "treatment" category regarding this.

As i am writing this, my tinnitus has decreased alot from the first onset, i still hear it if i listen, and when i am going to bed at night. The only time the sound bothers me is when i am really stressed or have anxiety, as it tends to put my nervesystem on overdrive, producing more "sound".

I recommend that you read this article by Kjetil, he also has alot of good youtube videos.

Welcome to the forum. By the way, congratulate Norway your country for doing so well in the current Winter Olympics. I wish Canada can catch up. Lol.

Yes, anxiety and stress are bad for T and so we have been telling new members to focus on keeping things positive, hopefully helping to calm T. It is often easy said than done but we have to try it somehow to stand up to T and not freak out with negative emotions which then just feed to the fire of T. Thanks for coming by to share your story. Take care. God bless.
