Well that explains why my sounds in the 4-5 khz range can make me feel so distressed

No, because this study doesn't look into duration, only the 'shape of the waveform', or in other words, what frequencies the sound is made up of.

It does imply that tinnitus in the 'screaming baby/female'-range is more annoying than tinnitus elsewhere. As SoulStation already pointed out.
