Cause of Tinnitus
Loud Noise / headphones / wax buildup
Dear all,

I'm 31 years old, I had tinnitus for a while now; I used earbuds and went to loud music concerts but it never really seemed to bother me until last week when I used a cotton swab, and it became unbearable and I went to see an ENT who told me that I had massive earwax buildup and this could be the culprit.

After some ear syringing, I realize that now I have tinnitus in both ears.

Anyone recovered from this? I read another thread where people have either chronic or temporary tinnitus, I have scheduled another meeting with a different ENT tomorrow, is there anything I should be aware of or I need to ask him?

Thanks a lot.

Hi @Faust86

Whenever you get your ears syringed again or microsuctioned, make sure that you apply olive oil eardrops 3x a day to each ear for 10 days before the procedure. Failure to do this can cause tinnitus or make it worse.
Since you have had tinnitus for quite some time and it was low, the best thing for you to do is Nothing. The ear is a very delicate and sophisticated organ and things are likely to settle down.

If I were in your situation I wouldn't go to see that ENT Dr yet. Unless you have: ear pain, dizziness, deafness or balance problems. Please click on the links below and read my articles in tinnitus that you may find helpful. Try to read them in full and not skim through them. I strongly suggest that you do not listen to any type of audio through headphones even at low volume. More about this is explained in my articles. Try to avoid quiet rooms and surroundings especially at night by using "sound enrichment" more is explained in my posts.

All the best
Michael

Hello Michael,

I would like to thank you for your uplifting message, as you can guess in my case, every light of hope is a heartbeat.

I'm gonna print out your three links and read them out by the beach later, as I found that the sound of the waves kind of soothe and distract me quite well.

Now, I didn't read your message before running to the ENT again, just this morning, he ran a battery of tests and told me that my hearing is very good, despite me using headphones at high volume and going to loud concerts in the past and that my tinnitus is likely to fade away or at least grow to be more quiet in the future; weeks or even months as he said, now mind you, he's not the same ENT that cleaned my ears out.

So, this is where I'm at, any input or advices are welcome :)
