I am trying to help my dad, with tinnitus. He's in Florida, he's 70, and has had it for 45 years, after exposure to loud noise from guns in the Israeli military without using hearing protection.

My dad works still, in flooring. Mostly around carpet. After being in nutrition school, I find there are a lot of toxins used to make the carpet, and in removing old carpet all tracked from years of use, which I found does not help the immune system, which may be inclined to heal faster if there was no toxic load.

I prefer natural remedies. I ordered a product called 't-gone' for his nerve damage, and they shipped it once. My second order though, was never sent. I emailed and called the company many times, they just stopped responding.

I researched them and found they learned of it, and probably get it from South Africa, from a Dr Brom. I don't know if he is still alive or how to get another product that is similar and effective.

I like the idea of homeopathy or similar treatments. Does anyone know of any other natural remedies or treatment for his tinnitus?

Maybe you should try to contact a specialist of natural treatments , this is a very specific question.

And, well, if we knew how to cure T only with plants...

But i don't understand. Your father has T from hearing damage, he has an immune system problem. You want to cure this problem or the T? Because healing one will not healing the other problem...

I got some temporary relief from a plant called pycnogenol. I've heard others have had some success with this too. But I'm not sure if there is anything nutritional or homeopathic you can really fix T with otherwise we'd be all over it like a fat guy in a pie eating competition!

I can't speak for your dad and I have more issues than the T alone but something that drives me nuts is people (with best intentions) giving me packets of pills because someone's aunts, mothers friend heard this is a great remedy for... Or telling me that if I do have MS I need to take this mineral or vitamin because it cures it... Blah blah blah.

I know they mean well but it makes you feel that the symptoms you have are your fault because of something you're doing or not doing. And believe me the sufferers know more about the possible causes or remedies for their ills than any well meaning friend or relative will ever know and have tried more remedies than you could shake a stick at. And they get sick of people talking about it because they are more than a collection of ills.

You obviously love your dad and believe me that love is the best medicine he'll ever receive from anyone!

Pine-bark eh? I tried that, has no effect. Then again Ginko didn't work either.

Thanks for the replies.

ith plants...

I find they are linked. It's been my experience that if I help heal my body, not worried too much about symptoms, health can be improved.

For example, I was sick for a long time. Exposure to mold and other things left me in a condition like having really bad allergies. My head hurt a lot, I couldn't be around a lot of things, like smoke, and I came down with pneumonia, for which I was in the hospital for. I even had tinnitus. I am much better. In fact, I don't hear a ringing any more and I have forgotten about my tinnitus.

While I was doing a lot, one of the main things was juice cleanses. I was inspired after seeing 'Fat Sick and Nearly Dead' by Joe Cross, who did one for 60 days straight, and now has online programs of his own.

I found that if I came at it from another angle, to clean my body, I started to feel better. I found I was in a way, de-gunking myself, and nearly all symptoms vanished. I also read a book called 'Cure for All Diseases', which was very helpful.

Now, I work with a natural-minded doctor, eat clean, keep active by bike riding, going to the gym, using a sauna, and I've noticed tremendous improvements.

Mad maggot, thank you for the suggestion of pycnogenol and the kind words.

Well, I've formulated my thoughts, which is what I think I needed. Sometimes a game plan is the key. Thank you all and very good luck.
