My GI doctor had me increase my Prilosec from 20 mg a day to 80 mg a day. I took 40 mg in the morning and 40 mg at dinner to get my GERD under control. About four hours after that, my tinnitus suddenly worsened, and I seemed to experience some hearing loss in both ears, particularly in the high frequencies.
I don't understand why this happened. I checked, and I was told that Prilosec is not considered an ototoxic drug. I've been taking 20 mg of Prilosec once a day for over 25 years, and it never had any effect on my hearing before.
Is there a chance this is just a temporary spike and that my hearing and tinnitus might return to baseline soon? I can't believe this happened. I'm very concerned.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Louie
