Just wanted to get some responses to help us all measure our loudness in comparison with others:

Can you hear your tinnitus while sitting in a silent room?

Can you hear your tinnitus in an average office environment-- if you work in an office?

Can you hear your tinnitus while walking outside on a quiet street?

Can you hear your tinnitus over a tv at modest volume?

Can you hear your tinnitus over a shower?

Does your tinnitus get louder when in loud environments like busy restaurant with music playing?

Aww i wish everyone could not have T but if you had to have T then i wish everyone could have minee :-/ not tryin to sound rude meaning that but i really do feel lucky just thinkin back at the damage i did to my ears and that im left with what i have now is almost nothing. What gets me is my anxiety and worry tho. But please know my ears were ten times worse the first two days of T and somehow dropped down to almost nothing so i believe that can happen to anyone at anytime including yourselff ;)

Can you hear your t while sitting in a silent room?--YES... I'd venture to say that if you can't at least answer yes to this, then you wouldn't have tinnitus.

Can you hear your t in an average office environment-- if you work in an office? --YES

Can you hear it while walking outside on a quiet street? --YES

Can you hear it over a tv at modest volume? --SOMETIMES

Can you hear it over a shower?--NO

Does your t get louder when in loud environments like busy restaurant with music playing?--NO, but mine does get louder randomely throughout the day, and I'm still not sure exactly what the cause is.

Yes to all the questions except the shower question- I cannot hear it over the shower at any time. However, despite how loud it is, I have become quite adept at being able to ignore it. When it is low, I tend to just forget I have T. When it is higher and I notice it, then my ability to ignore it and change my focus kicks in. This is just something I learned to do with time. I guess it is just my way of habituating.

I can hear mine while mowing the lawn. I can hear mine in the car with the windows down or up and with the radio cranked up really high. I sometimes can't hear the tv because of my tinnitus. I can't mask it unless I use headphones and listen to loud music which is pretty dumb. Whilst volume isn't the only factor in determining how quickly you get on the habituation bus I think it often does have a bearing.

Yes to all except shower or sitting in the bath while the water is running into it...unless I "listen" for the tinnitus, then I can still hear it. All the other places/situations, including in a 747 I don't even have to try to listen for it, it is way above those "ambient" (sic) levels.
Also, sound above some level I am not sure of...(above normal speech between two people in a non noisy place), maybe 65 to 70 decibels, then it seems to aggravate the darn tinnitus and it gets a bit louder with exposure time. It does not have to be harsh or sharp sounds, just 'sound'.
Mmmmmmmm, though I wonder what would happen if I stood next to a loud waterfall for half an hour??? For sure that would be above 80 dBs.....Anyone tried this??? I will give it a test run next time I go back-packing in the Sierra's as there are plenty of loud waterfalls there in late spring.

To those who have T levels lower than these "All Yes except shower", I suggest you keep it that way and especially do not add Hyperacusis to the mix!

      Best, Zimichael

In the day time, outside, I don't hear it very much (must be the ambient noise); but in the night, despite being noisier out, I heart it it super loud outside.

      5. No

At first, I could hear it over a semi-quiet environment and I had a single spike on my right ear for an hour where it was loud. I remember staring at my phone and did a few neck movements to my right, trying to modulate it. I can always hear it when I close my ears but if I repeatedly close and open my ears, it sort of fades (probably ETD related).

Yes to the first 4 questions, no to the last two. It has to be about 75 dB before mine is masked.

      1. At its worst and during a spike, it is unbearable and all I can hear in a quiet room. Other times it can be very quiet.

      2. If I look for it then yes but otherwise it is easily masked by office noise.

      3. Same answer as 2, very easily masked with wind and ambient noise.

      4. Nope.

      5. Nope.

      6. Not while I’m at the restaurant but it will definitely be louder once I’m home. It usually quiets down the more I stay in a quieter area.
